what is the biggest big block i can fit in a 98 2wd ranger?
First off hello, I'm mike and new to this thing.
Cut straight to the point... What would be the biggest big block motor(rather it be Ford or Chevy bb) I can fit into a 2wd 98 ranger without modifications to the frame or firewall. As of now I have the 3. Slow in the truck and I've considered small blocks because the cost, size and power...but..... You just can't beat the raging sound and power of a big block. And before anyone says anything, I know its totally overkill and gas guzzler and a waste of time and money but that's why its just a project. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And I know it would be gay but ill call it the "Power Ranger"

I would imagine you could fit a 351 in without major frame modifications.
Ya I agree that thing is isnane ... It just sounds like that will twist my frame as soon as you get on it. But I saw this video and made my jaw drop....http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=WTMZ5n-EGCI. I know for a fact that the Ford 390 bb is physicaly smaller that a Ford 4.6 v8 and I've seen that done with minor mods but on the other hand I know its bigger in size that the 302 which fits nice and tight in the rangers.... Hmmmm its gunna take alot of planning, measuring and beer to pull this one off I guess.
Haha that diesel is crazy too. But from what I hear and don't take my word for it but a cummins 4bt fits nice in a ranger and is rather easy to get running.... But I hate to say it but I'm more of a gas job guy rather than diesel... I love diesel engine but there just not for me
IMHO…
512 Ford !
Outside frame headers.
Remote Oil Filter.
Electric Fan on the outside of the frt panel or a rear mounted radiator.
No OEM heater box, maybe something after market.
Using Ford will move the distributor to the front, less to worry about there.

Well I know this guy who can come up with anything jeep or truck related and I asked him if he can look for a motor for me.. he came up with a 390 out of a Ford galaxy and a 351c. And it hit me. I have a 3.0 liter now but I possibly could have a 5.8l Ford ranger and or a 6.4l ranger... It just makes me smile.
I'm putting a carbed 460 in my Ranger later this year, I know they fit under the stock hood, I just don't know what I'll have to do to the frame. I'm not scared though, I'll make it work
What is the difference ? Outer dimensions are the same.
We are talking OVERKILL, so go big or go home !
There you go… 512 is not bigger !

I'm graduating in May, so I better be working somewhere in June. I'm applying to companies in the Cape Girardeau area so I won't be that far from you.
