Well Brenton you help me and I'll help you. Looks like I'm gonna be doing mine about that same time.

Bad ass Josh! Are you using the EFI or what? And what are you getting youur motor out of?
Brenton |
Yeah EFI. I doing it to my 84' and the engine is going to be out of an 87' F-150. If I get lucky I'll find someone arround here that has a MAF Mustang that wants to convert to EFI so I can get their system, it's a much better than speed density. But ya know what they say don't look a gift horse in the mouth, I'm getting the engine and an aod transmission for free.
|
And if you don't convert to the explorer eec-v , do all of those modifications become moot? What if you don't need headers? Can you just use van exhaust manifolds and some bending of the body pan for clearance? Just curious , how much extra bracing are you installing on the frame for your obviously enhanced performance application? Are you planning on racing ? Are you saying that the 5.0 a/c and power steering lines swap with no modification , but that a 351w's won't? Please clarify. bob
|
You don'thave to convert to EEC-V. A lot of people are running the EEC-IV. If you have a donor vehicle just run whatever it comes stock with. If you will be doing a lot of bolt on mods get MAF, Speed Density can be made to work it;s just a bigger headache.

ya.. **** it lol, ya know i might just start lookn for trashed exploders around town and see if i cant find one with a nice motor, cause i plan on getn a car, that way i can have the truck opened up without needing to drive it anytime soon i know i can do it, and i have many friends who know plenty |
There is a bunch of info in this thread:
http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...d.php?t=170886 The rest of the info can be found with searching on the RPS V8 board. Very straight forward swap with nearly 100% factory parts. I have heard of this swap being done in a weekend. I did mine in 3 weekends, including alot of down time for parts orders and my anal retentive attention to detail / perfectionism! |
right on.. as am i , so if i do this it will need to be done next to perfect. :)
|
Check out some of my swap pictures on these pages. Each link has several pages. I have not arranged / cleaned up this picture pages in a while, so a little of everything!

Redneckstone, first of all i love the body style of the old rangers and they are a very light vehicle. i also love the old 350 chevy motor. they run like hell and you can dog the **** out of them !!! so why not put the two together. i wanted something different and i have it. i garauntee it will blow the doors off either one of your rangers. SO WHO CARES !!!!
|
Ya know Paul I wouldn't admit to owning that if I were you. The only reason most think that the 350 chevy is better is because the parts are a dime a dozen, so they can afford to build and break them over and over. I am with Zach on this one. While I do like your choice of generation, your engine choice sucks. If it were an sdime I would like it, but it's a Ford use a Ford engine. What a waste of a truck.

Chevy motors are a good swap as they are economically more viable, easy to make power with and theres a VAST market of parts for them. |

What does it take to get 400 ponies out of a 302? What does it take to get 400 ponies out of a Chevy 350? Need we speak of Tranny's going behind these engines? a TH400 is VERY reliable and you can buy a race ready one with GOOD bands and a valve body for an entry level C4 you'll detonate at simular power levels. I respect Small Block Chevies.. enough of them have beaten me before. |
I have seen a Mazda w. a 350 in it on cardomain. I wouldn't put a 350 in my truck, just because there's nothing to look around to to make it work for my truck being an '01. That's my psersonal reason why I am choosing the 302.

It may be what works for him but to me it's a waste.
"Need we speak of Tranny's going behind these engines? a TH400 is VERY reliable and you can buy a race ready one with GOOD bands and a valve body for an entry level C4 you'll detonate at simular power levels." No we need not. I don't remember chevy transmissions being an issue. I do stand by what I said though. "What does it take to get 400 ponies out of a 302? What does it take to get 400 ponies out of a Chevy 350?" More than out of a 350 obviously considering that the 350 has ~48 cubes on the 302 from the factory. And next time you want to compare something like that start with two blocks that are closer to the same size from the start, like the 350 and the 351. It's not that I don't have respect for chevys. It's just that I respect ford more considering how much more is available for the chevy motor than is available for the ford, I respect the extra work the average do-it-yourselfer has to go through to accomplish the same thing. I am also sick of seeing Fords with Chevy engines in them, I have yet to see it the otherway arround. What are some of the most popular Ford street rods? the ones that come to my mind quickest are the T and the 32' 3 window, how many of those street rods have you seen with a Ford engine? I've only seen a hand full. Why not give them what they were made for? Chevy made for Chevy, Ford made for Ford, and Mopar for Mopar. |
i think im going to get really upset and cry about a ford and chevy battle...
|
Ok ok I removed the Junkyard part, even though it was the truth.
But I gotta mention this one. Is it just me or does this make the C4 sound like the better transmission. a TH400 is VERY reliable and you can buy a race ready one with GOOD bands and a valve body for an entry level C4 you'll detonate at simular power levels |
Well It's bout time we got back on subject so...
I think this will help both Brenton and myself. What material do we need to run the fuel lines. If I we were running a carb. it would be as simple as running some hose from the end of the old system, but since this is EFI it has a high pressure Fuel system. Hi pressure means metal lines so what do we need to get? I can bend and flare the lines so that's no problem, if my school will let me barrow the stuff for a weekend, just not sure what metal and line sizes will be needed. If i don't get an answer here I'll hit up RPS and TRS, and will let yall know the answers. |

If you are planning a carb for the 99, all I can ask is why??? Regardless, it all depends on the HP you intend to make. 3/8"(-6AN) is probalby fine for most applications. For my supercharged 351W, I am running 1/2" (-8AN). As for material, you have one choice for metal - stainless steel. Do not run aluminum, as after time, it will stress crack in the least supported area and be a major and potentially costly problem. Stainless is harder to work with and more costly, but much better in the long run - that is why the OEMs use it. For 3/8", you can get it from Summit Racing in coils. For 1/2", I had to special order through a local metal supply shop. Something like $6/ft. It is 1/2" OD 0.028" wall thickness. Anything thicker than that and good luck flaring it. I have a $100+ Rigid 37 degree flaring tool and had a heck of a time with 0.035" I first used. I also had to buy a ~$75 Ideal lever bender to get clean bends in it. |
Hey Todd, don't you have family in GA? lol
