8-Cylinder Tech If you are one of the few with a V8 engine in your Ranger, or if you dream of a Ranger with a V8 engine, this is the sub-forum for you.

Is this worth it?...

man these are pretty cool st ups...If I had a money tree I go all out...Dump a FORD GT40 racing engine in rear and find some way to make front heavier....It be one heck of a truck

but in your case if it was me I'd go with the 302 so you'll have some room for a/c and stuff

Actually the explorer 5.0L only had like 215-225(in '01)hp stock. The 4.6L has good torque, but they FLY when you get those RPM's up there.. and the 96-98 4.6L (220ish hp) had the non-PI head setup while the 99-04 4.6L (260hp) had the PI setup which gave it the extra 40hp.

Hey, I know that engine!

The 4.6 actually fits in a '98-up 2WD coil spring Ranger alot better than most people think it would. There's plenty of room around the engine to work on it. In fact, it's easier than working on my V8 Explorer.

I removed the AC for two reasons, weight savings and the fact I never used it. If I had wanted to keep it there was a couple of different routes I could have taken.

Was it worth it? Definitely! It runs good, sounds good, and has a little bit of wow factor when you lift the hood. I'm trying to get everything together for a trip to the dragstrip on July 1st. I'll post up some performance numbers when I get them.

As for that price on the 4.6 you can get a 302 for less than that and there is ALOT of mods and upgrades that are cheap. 302 upgrade is the way I am going .
