Would it work?

I have been talking with a club brother of mine that races Mustangs in the NMRA. I told him that I want to drop a v8 in my Power Ranger. He drives a lincoln LS. He made the suggestion to use the LS 3.9L V8. I know that there are a whole mess of mods for that motor. His is running nearly 375hp. Do You think that this motor would fit into a Ranger without to many problems? His car is really freaking fast! and the engine is not that big, as opposed to the 5.0 or 4.6

Of course, anything is possible with enough time and money. Rangers have problems with wide engines and the Lincoln engine is wide. Your 97 has a bit more breathing room under the hood than 98+, so maybe it could work.

Personally, I would go with a 5.0/5.8 because there are conversion parts available to make it a near bolt in for a 97-back Ranger. The engines are a dime a dozen and there is a huge aftermarket.

This is what the 3.9 looks like without the Lincoln LS wrapped around it. There's alot of stuff hanging down in front that looks like it will get in the way.

The Rangers with the most room up front are the '98-up 2WD with coil springs. '98 was the first year for rack-n-pinion steering and the coil spring fronts are 4" wider between the upper control arm mounts. With a few mods there's enough room for a 4.6 dohc.
