Amazon has a good price on both. The rattle trap 80mil stuff is about $4 more per 50sq. My question is will there be enough of a deference between either to justify buying the heavier and i'm guessing harder to install 80mil? As of now i'm only doing my front doors. After the 6x9 install my door panels shake like crazy. Also will 50sq be enough for both doors?

OP.. I would guess that if you aren't doing any kind of competition with measured db's and just want the vibration damper/ sound deadening qualities... you probably won't see much difference between the two. But then again, if you aren't happy with the 50mil, it will be a b*tch to pull up and replace with 80 mil later.

That stuff is BOSS, for the price you really cant beat it, I did my chevy with 100sq feet years ago, it absolutely made a night and day difference, you really cant go wrong with the heavier, at least you wont have to say you regret not making the choice afterward. Do it.

I did my suv with 100sq feet, and the roof twice, i really think youll be ok with the 50, but it couldnt hurt to take some rough measurements just to calculate as best you can before ordering.

 

After a little more research I stayed with 50sq I don't plan on layering. Now my worry is the smell. How bad was it and how fast did the smell go away in your suv?

 

I wouldn't use Fatmat, it's asphalt-based just like the $14 roll of peel & seal you can get at the hardware store.

Ya MN can be nasty hot at times and the smell was a concern. It took a long time to figure out what I wanted and I changed my mind once again lol. I ordered the more expensive Mega mat and some thin closed cell foam for the door panel. Hopefully I will get some pix when I install it and let you guys know how it works out.

 

I used FatMat and I can say that after sitting in direct sunlight with a heat index of 105* my truck didn't smell at all inside.

 

I have read no smell and it smells like crazy I'm sure it depends on age and thickness but I didn't wanna take a chance.

 

As someone who has used Fatmat and Second Skin. I would recommend the Second Skin hands down. There is a major difference between the two. A few sheets of regular Second Skin would be much more effective then a full layer of even the 80mill fat mat. it would be a lot less work too. 5 sq ft of SSkin is enough for front doors.

useing less of a high quality deadner is better than using alot of cheap deadner
