Added steering wheel controls for AFM HU

This was very easy to do...
I wanted audio steering wheel controls.
I have an Alpine Excelon 995 HU
Axxess makes this wireless control unit that attaches to AFM HU's.
It comes with a lame strap that just straps over the wheel. it looks aftermarket and feels out of place when the wheel is spinning through your hand. I thought maybe i could mod it and get it onto the wheel a little cleaner.

the device itself is constructed pretty well, well enough that you can mod it, and it holds up to the changes.

I completely disassembled it, I dremmled off the curved parts that wrap around the wheel, and flattened out the back of the unit. Sanded it and finished it. I put holes in the back to accept some small hardware. I attached the unit onto the steering wheel itself with the hardware and closed everything back up.

Next you just wire in the receiver unit behind the dash. its literally three wires and you're done. Since its wireless RF, I was expecting the remote to have a lag or delay. I was impressed that it really does not, if you tap the controls its immediate, it responds before your finger is off the button after having tapped it.

you can also custom re-assign the buttons on the remote if you want to remap it.

please pardon the photos, i took these under the shop lights, the truck is a mess and my grubby paw prints are all over it...

It definitely could be a good but it does look out of place. This gives me some ideas though. I have a GPS that has voice controls with a wireless button that straps to the wheel itself. I wonder if there are things like this that may work. It is definitely food for thought.
