amp help!!!
ok so i have an alpine pdx 1.600 mono block powering an alpine typr r 12 sub. and it worked perfect till the other day when the bass started cutting in and out and now my amp wont turn on. ive chacked all the wiring and fuses and thats not it. what else could it be?
yeah chacked the remote and its fine. just re did my ground the right way soo thats good. im thinking because my ampp was mounted on my box at may have screwed up the remote terminal in my amp? is thhat ppossible?
this is gonna sound crazy but get down close to your amp and smell it. See if it smells burnt. If it does then you fried something in the amp, problem is the parts are so small inside it may be hard to see when you open it up.
Sounds like what happens when a power mosfet dies.. could have been from a lack of power to the amp or bad ground. If its not a bad wire, then I would open the amp up and look for a burnt mosfet in the power supply section of the amp. this might explain why the amp was not hot when this happened. but check the other stuff first.
Do you have a power supply in your house/shop? I would take the amp in there and try it out. If not, take a DMM and test your power wire and remote turn on. That will definitely let you know if it is the amp or the wiring.
well the alpine digital amps never get hot. my friend has 2 mounted in the engine compartment of his boat and there fine. but yeah im guna test everything. what do i do it it is the power mosfet? is the amp just toast?
Meter it to make sure it actually has power running through it. Since the amp came on by jumping it from the battery or constant wire then its gonna either be an amp issue or your not getting power from the remote. Remote output could be bad from deck (if its an aftermarket deck).

But do some more troubleshooting first. If your thinking its the remote wire and you know you have power on the main cable and a decent ground, just take a small wire and connect it from the Positive amp terminal to the Remote terminal. the amp should kick on if thats the problem. And if not then take the amp out and remove the back cover plate, take a good picture or two of the insides then post them up here and me or someone else will tell you whats wrong and tell you what you need to do to fix it.
Where is your remote wire hooked into? As said above it may not be getting switched 12v. There's different places that will give you that 12v power, but some of them don't switch or just don't work as you need them to. Took me probably 3 hours total to finally find a good wire to tap the remote in to.
