Amping 3-ways

With the addition of my new sub, the bass is overpowering and I can barely hear my pioneer 6x8 three ways. I have both the front and rear. Would amping these speakers give me a lot more clarity? I don't listen to my music too loud but I want to hear the speakers a little more and not just the bass.

Now, my speakers sound pretty much stock again and are competing with the bass as they did before when I had my 8's. Will I need to switch out to components or can I achieve what I am wanting to hear by putting an amp on the four speakers?

You could do one of the following. Turn the sub amp down, or like you said, amp the speakers.

I definitely want to keep the bass up. I guess I'll amp the speakers and hope they sound good. Thanks for the input.

I had a set of Pioneer 3-ways in my Cherokee (6.5s) and ran a 400 Watt 4 channel amp and they sounded great. I highly recommend amping those speakers. They sound ten times clearer with the amp powering them.

No prob. You'll love it after you do it. As a matter of fact, I still don't like the sound of mine, because I've been too lazy to put the amp in this one. Just don't go too nuts with the amp. You might be able to go a bit higher, but the 400 was pretty close to peak with those speakers. Good luck.

So I want a multi-channel amp right with around 400 watts?

4ch or 2 ch will work.. the 2ch you will only be able to control front/back fade or left/right fade depending on how u wire it.. 4ch u can control each speaker.
but an amp on those speakers should sounds real nice

Urandaman is correct, a 2 or a 4 channel will work, but I highly recommend a 4 channel. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a big fan of splicing wires if I don't have to. I bought a Clarion 400W 4 Channel from my local Mickey Shorr for $160 + an amp wiring kit for $35 and they installed it for free. So, for under 200 bucks installed, I had the proper set-up. I'd just keep an eye out for specials at you local audio shop or Best Buy, etc.
