Box Tuning

Hey, just bought a pre-fab ported box for my new L7. I was just wondering if someone on here could help me figure out what it's tuned to? I did some searching on here and on some audio forums and none gave me a clear explanation of what I wanted, so hopefully someone on here will come through for me....

Box: 2.6^3 ft (before port and subwoofer displacement, couldnt find the displacement for an 05' Kicker 12" L7 anwhere...)
Port: 12.5" x 1.5" x 12.5"

Thanks in advance, you guys are the best

Alright, here's the best I could do in a couple minutes. If your box is exactly 2.6ft3 then after displacement and port volume, it's about 2.37ft3. The parameters are based off of the 06 model, which I'm pretty sure is 90+% the same. The box would be tuned at 34.69Hz. Here is a screenshot of the program I use for all of my boxes I make, which hasn't been many lately... The bright green line is NOT your subwoofers response, it is the gain from the tuning of the box/port.

wow with how big that box is your going to hit the lows really good but not the highs....my buddy had 3 L7 in his GTP that was set up for show and each sub box was done at just under 2 sq feet....it hit so hard it sharderd his windows in his car.

BTW, does 35 Hz sound about right for a DD? I mean no competitions or anything, I listen to mostly rap and stuff, but I rock out to country and rock/alternative stuff every now and then too...

Oh yeah, that curve would almost have a point at 55 or so if it were for competition. Most music doesn't go below 35hz anyway so the bass will sound awesome. Will probably sound louder with the windows down, too.

finally someone that realizes that hardly rap goes below 30hz

35hz is fine for daily, trust me that box is about perfect for those kickers

last time i checked its pretty hard to bust out glass in a car, ive tried i can move my winshield wipers a pretty good bit on my front winshield, only way a sub can bust a window is if its hardcore SPL Setup or you physically pick it up and chunk it through the window, and also if there is a crack it might spread the crack, but on a good wiondow 2 L7s will NOT bust it, if my 18 wont i dont see how 3 L7s will

and if the box only hits high notes, i dont believe its gonna bust it either

the boxes that come with the 05 L7 are nice but a custom i think is better, they wanted like 400$ for that stupid box for my 2 l7 12's and i paid all of 50$ and made one twice the size lol

Exactly, but some people don't have the tools or know-how to build one. It's pretty much the only real skill I possess....lol.

I don't play the guitar, the drums, the piano, or paint, weave, sew or cook (well), so I build sub boxes.

I wish I knew how to do all this car audio related stuff, I've only been really starting to get into it a few months ago really so I have a lot of learning left to do

Most of it is just knowing basic electronics to install CD players, speakers, amps, etc. until you get into the real hardcore Sound Quality and SPL competition type installations.

my box is 4ft long by 16" wide by 22" high, each champer is half of that and its ported on each side of the box...if you want to know what it looks like page 4 of my car domain..thanks alot!

What size are the ports?? You would just use the volume of one chamber. If they use the same size ports, then you will be straight. Then figure out the volume that the ports take up and the volume that the subwoofer takes up. Subtract that from the volume of the one chamber. Click on "BOX" and enter that as the volume of the box. Click on "VENTS" and select 1 (me assuming there's only one per chamber) for the number of ports, select the shape (sq or round), put in the port diameter/measurements. THEN, the go back to "BOX" and adjust the tuning frequency by pressing up or down until you get as close to the length of the ports in your box.

Any other Qs??
