I had mine mounted here:

But now I have it mounted here:

I prefer the look in the back, so it will be moved again. I will say that it gets great reception, though.

trextegra 03-09-2011 06:46 PM

i agree with you about it being in the back and thats really the only place i would install it but i have a roll up tonneau so i dont really kno where i could

A hood mount like Jimmeh has (wow, haven't seen you on here in forever, almost literally) is the best for reception besides a center mount on the roof.

Using dual antennas unless 8+ ft apart is merely looks. If you're set on two, wire one up and run it as a single, also easier to tune this way as well.

My Chevy forums suck. They only make me want to spend more money then I am willing to, lol. Plus, I missed the Ranger community.

And I thought duals needed to be at least 4 feet apart?

trextegra 03-09-2011 06:56 PM

oh yea the plan was for looks and to only use one and as far as reception im not to particular its mostly going to be for looks/novelty item on the rig

The mounts I have are pretty damn flat. I mounted them to the underside of my tool box. You could probably find a mount that will let you mount it to the cab wall of your bed. You could probably get mounts like Alon made a while back, like a vertical door jamb mount and mount it to the bed.

There are a ton of options all over the place, you just gotta look.

These are the mounts I have on my Ranger:

I didn't mod them in any way, just bolted them to the bottom of my box.

trextegra 03-09-2011 07:07 PM

has anyone every mounted them off the rear of the cab as opposed to off the top of the bed???

trextegra 03-09-2011 07:11 PM

sorry i posted that while you were posting your comment i suppose i can do this and just not be able to roll the cover all the way which wouldnt be a bad thing as its annoying as hell when it is rolled against the cab as it rub and makes so much noise

I used an alon mount, works perfect with the tonneau cover.

I mounted mine in my bed, but I don't have a tonneau, I would love to grab an alon mount though.

I'm afraid to mess with mine because it receives well over 30 miles.

Dual whips are useless on our small trucks.

I did the Alon mount since I dont have a stake hole for the firestick mount.

Love the Nobama stickers, a few of those got my car keyed a while back.

Luckily I caught someone doing it.

The more I see the alon mount, the more I want it. But I like mine the way it is, yet I might be picking up a tonneau cover, found a killer deal.

That Cobra is nice. I might try to find one, I was looking at a decent Midland...

94rangerxlt_kid 03-10-2011 09:10 AM

you could have easily mounted it to your rear bumper.a friend of mine has one on his jeep mounted to the bumper. i mounted mine to the bed but im lookin for a toolbox so if i find one thats where it will be. by the way firesticks are amazing in my opinion ive got 4 ft one and im lookin at a 5 ft for my nissan, but i also like the whips

94rangerxlt_kid 03-10-2011 09:13 AM

that cobra 29 is awesome ive got a 25 in my ranger and a 19 in the nissan

trextegra 03-10-2011 06:02 PM

yea after looking around i was telling myself not to get the 19 it looks like **** compared to the 29

Jimmeh 03-10-2011 06:04 PM

Honestly, it really doesn't matter what kind of CB you get as long as it's tuned right. I have a uniden in my truck, and it works great, but it's also tuned perfectly.

ford4life 03-10-2011 06:44 PM

Anyone with a cover..
