I know it doesnt exactly fit under the catagory of "ranger" car stereo but technically it was in my trucks cab so I believe that makes this still eligible to post lol anyways.. I was seriously bored last night and finally had enough of the terribly low volume level my netbooks internal speakers had to offer so.. I made an all in one little jambox with a freebie pioneer deck and some eclipse 4x6 plates and a spare ac adapter that probably goes to something I'll need soon

Does it plug into a regular wall outlet?

 

Yeah, I found a 12v 3amp 110vac adapter in my box of things i dont know what they go to, i glued down the adapter inside the box and cut a hole out the backside so i can plug it in easily, and unplug it and put the cable inside if i take it somewhere.

 

So so, to be honest.. , but hey im sure its wayy better then the netbook speakers. and its always fun to tinker around. the enclosure is my biggest gripe (too flimsy and leaky) fyi you should keep that lid closed to help isolate the backwave some should sound a lil better.

I've been wanting to build something similar, more of a low cost homemade job site radio. I no longer work in construction so not much motivation for it now. I was going to buy some small t-amps, mids and tweeters, and a small 6" subwoofer. was going to make it out of mdf in the shape of a tool box. I had everything picked out on parts-express.com at one point. might wanna check that site out if your into this sort of thing.

Cool project none the less. nice work on the wiring.

 

This wasn't meant to be spectacular, it was meant to be done by only using items I already had and without spending any money, everything including the head unit was all freebies here, with the only purpose in mind of amplifying my netbook audio, it was just bonus with the addition of an am/fm tuner and cd player, it was made to sit on that particular dresser, because I keep all of my drawing supplies in that toolbox and spend a lot of time at it, sound quality was never a goal here, but yes, im well aware of parts express, but they dont really have any selection of raw components to really be beneficial to the majority projects, and are for the most part overpriced on anything that would really be of use to me.

If I wanted to invest time, money, and effort into another small, yet much better sounding novelty, I would have just made another enclosure for the small toolbox in the closet similar to the one I have in my spare box.

I didn't mean to bash your project, just gave my honest opinion. Sorry, I do that a lot. Keep doing what you do, don't mind me.
Not to start an argument or promote anything but I do disagree about the p-e.com ... they seem to have a ton of raw components specifically for this sort of thing. I really don't know where else you could find a better section. certainly not the best prices but also not the worst.

Anyways, do you have a thread on that other project? I'm interested on how it was made..
