Contemplating audio mod

Since it is getting a little on the cold side and not good to paint in, I figured I would upgrade the audio sys. on the ranger. I have a reg. cab so space is a premium. I am weighing 2 options: 1) Replace all factory speakers w/6x8 pioneer 3-ways. I can get them for $51.00 at the PX. Also, get 1 10" sub and amp; 2) Replace the 2 front with the above mentioned 6x8's, remove the rear speakers and make an enclosure for 2 6x9 pioneer 3-ways, then push all 4 speakers w/amp. I am kind of leaning towards option 2 for the reason of space since I have a reg. cab. With option 1, if I run the sys. and sub., it will require a bigger amp. Couple that with a box and sub, that will take up much of the llimited space. If I go wth the 2nd option, I should get a little kick and should be able to feel what I'm listening to and not loose very much space. I would like to still be able to have my cobra 29 cb behind the seats somewhere. What do you guys think?

I like the 1st one. replace the factory with aftermarket and add a sub. You only need an amp to run the sub to save money.

On option 2, why do 6x9's? You're not gonna notice the difference between the 6x9's and the 6x8's. Plus if you add a sub, you have more room for the sub box, than the 6x9's.

you will notice a difference b/w the 6x9 and the 6x8. the sub will give you more basss tho. the thing is is that since u have a reg cab like me u wont be able to hear voices and treble from the back n e ways. go for the sub and get some good coax speakers. the third "mid" is a waste and the coax sounds better.

i would just put some 100dollar speakers up front instead of the 50dollar one all the way around and put an amp on them.. the front 2 on an amp will be more than enough for a single cab! and you could always get an amp like i have, its an eclipse ea 4322 4ch. but you can run it in a 3way mod and put 40w to the front 2 channels(door speakers) and 150(ithink...) to a 10" sub. and accomplish all that with one amp...

Just like the above.... upgrade the speakers up front.... you already have a nice head unit so good speakers upfront will help your sound out. I have Infinity's in my front two doors and a 12"sub in the back... I use my speakers for the most part and only turn on the bass when i want to thump (ie the fiancee isnt in the truck).... lol

Yeah, I'm wanting a good sound. My big thing is the best sound for the buck and trying to save as much space as possible. Also w/reg. cab, I don't want too much. Before I got my ranger in '02, I had a '99 amigo w/pioneer hu, new speakers, and an mtx 10" sub. I hooked the rear speakers to 1 channel and the sub to another channel. I had the bass turned down on the sub and turned down to 2 or 3 on my radio. It still madde my dog tags vibrate that I had hanging from my rear view mirror. My ranger cab is a little smaller than that. What size amp would you guys recommend? By the way, those speakers for $51 aren't the cheap ones. They sell for 80 something at best buy. My other option for replacements are the infinity 2-way 6x8's. Best buy had a special, buy one pair get the other 50% off. I think those were $100-$101?

Hey crook.... I have the Inifinity reference series 6.5" 2 ways... they are nice... they also sell a component set you can get and mount the tweeter on the dash or if real good mold it in below the grab handles... other wise stick with some solid 3 ways for the door and go from there... if you still aren't happy with the bass you get... a 10" sub with truck box and 200w amp would do you more than enough....

The amp I had in my previous vehicle was 200 watts. I didn't have the bass turned down on the sub, it was turned down on the amp. It still made my dog tags dance. I don't know if it would be too much for the ranger. Really, the only diff. would be pushing the front and tweeters instead of the rears.

i know what speakers you are talking about.. the blue pioneers. correct... i had a set of those in my old explorer few yrs ago. sounded decent. but i would look into 1 set of infinity reference, or kappas those have a nice sound to them for sure! if ya dont want alot of bass, but just enough, look into one of those shallow mount pioneer subs that is like 4" deep? 1 10 with 200-300w would prob give ya a nice sound.

on my old set up i had the infinity reference 6.5s? cant remember but i still have those, ALpine 9856, and Kenwood amp and sub. the kenwood sub would fit perfectly in his truck, shallow mounting depth w/o sacrificing quality. I have the kenwood setup for sale right now if you would want it. and yea you are really close ive made it there in like 30 minutesish. nice to meat you. Shoot me a PM if you want the subs. Also have wiring. Ill help you hook it upo sometime if oyu want. I would upgrade to the infinitys for shure. great speakers.

If you decide to go without the sub, I'd go with 6x8's in the back and components in the front, all driven by an amp. Components will give you much better sound than the 6x8 mids.
