I'm thinking about adding a sub for some bass to my 2000 xlt extended cab ranger.

The sub i have is a Pioneer TS-W302R 12" with 50-150 watts RMS (800 watts peak power) in a small enclosure i picked up already Scosche 12" 1.25 cubic feet Subwoofer Enclosure, SE12KT

One question is have no is about the amp: I'm thinking of picking up a
Profile HA700M that runs at 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms.

However I'm worried because the amp is rated with a higher RMS the the sub itself. Is that a problem? is there a way to make sure the amp doesn't output over 150 watts RMS?

Also whats the easiest way to run the power cable from the battery through the firewall without drilling any new holes into my truck? I'm planing to put the sub in the back right behind the center console. Is there any way of mounting the enclosure so i don't have to screw it into some paneling or sheet metal to keep it in place? I will attach the amp to the top of the enclosure.

Then it would be cool if it were easily removable because I could take it out and lock it up in my bed(out of sight of theifs) which has a locking cover on it when I'm not using my truck.

 

1. I don't think there is a way to keep the amp from putting out its RMS wattage.

2. When I got my thunderform installed i wanna say they ran the power wire through the steering column boot.

3. I'm pretty sure it will move around unless you have it bolted to something.

I will also say that you will get tired of taking the box in and out of the truck. If you do plan on doing it regular, make sure you take the power wire in-line fuse out before taking the amp out. You don't want a live wire just sitting back there.

 

Your amp shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure that you set your gain correctly. When you get it connected, turn the gain all the way down. Then turn on your radio on. If you can turn your regular speakers off do it. Turn the radio up to as loud as you ever listen to it. Turn up your gain until the subs are so loud you can't take it, or you hear distortion. Make a mark, and never turn the gain higher than that.

Turn the speakers back on, and tune it till it sounds good. Don't worry about blowing your subs. If you don't run it to distortion, no damage will be done.

 

thanks for the responses well since I found some good deals online I decided to go with a beter 12" pioneer sub at 400 watts RMS with a matching piooner amp that puts out 380watts RMS. I apologize for not having the models on me atm for those that might be interested but it will be a pretty good match with way more power for about the same price range.

 

Be easy with your gains and listen for stress with your sub. Extra power is always a good thing, not a bad thing.

I dont reccomend running anything through your steering column boot. Just get a grommet and find a good place to drill a new hole.

 

Im with CB on the sterring boot. There are plenty of drain plugs in the floor and i have mine zip tied to the frame and coming threw the drain plug. Keeps the wire from being in the way or being to close to the rcas or anything. Just the way i did mine though.
