Double Din Users
Thinking of going to a separate nav/ av setup because I hate having my music interrupted at 1 mile, 1/2 mile, 1/4 mile, and when i am turning.
I was just curious some opinions on the user interfaces of various brands. I have used Pioneer and I like it, but was wondering how Kenwoods, Sonys, etc are like to use. I've tried a couple kenwoods in stores and stuff and didn't like it but that could have just been me being new to using them. Pioneers just seem easiest, wondering if anyone liked their other brands or have used them and liked them. Doesn't matter if they are nav or not, just wondered how the UI is for different touchscreens.

Kenwood DDX714 here, NAV is cool (Garmin) I can program the NAV just about anyway I want with or without directions, sounds or interruptions. Mine is the add-on unit I think it is a Kenwood NAV510 or something like that but it is cool.
With the add on you get different options with different units I had an older DDX6019 and the DDX714 NAV options are completely different.

I use the Pioneer 2300 unit. It's not too bad, price is very good, but the radio station control is a bit weird. I can't just select a station that I set as number 1,2,3, etc. I have to scroll through all of my saved stations to get to the one I want. Only downside to the UI of this unit though IMO.

My opinion of the F90BT was the exact opposite. I didn't think the navi worked as well as my Garmin but I did prefer the interface of the F90 over the P3200/4200. Thats just my opinion though, I'd like to try a Kenwood double din next

Personally I'd get one that's all built in one. I like the Kenwood ones for the fact that they come with Garmin built in, although I'm not sure if they offer full Pandora control like Pioneer does. I have mine setup so that the voice is turned off. It shows you on the bottom of the screen what you need to do while you're navigating. Here is one of the newer ones. Also the big thing I like about Kenwood is the volume is a **** and not a button, also the volume only goes to like 35 instead of 60 or whatever the other brands are. So it is easy and fast to make it loud or turn it down

The F90 was HORRIBLE to startup when it first came out, the updates helped it out some but its still pretty slow.

well got my ddx 318 in the mail today. a little disappointed it does have separate subwoofer outputs, guess I won't have rear speakers for a while. not a big deal I guess. Going to go install it here in a few.
Oh and I would like to thank the FedEx man for hiding my package under the doormat so that would be thieves would be unable to find it.

i dunno about the kenwood. have a few things bugging me.
-ipod cable/3.5mm patch cable going to receiver to listen to ipod
-no sub preamps, so i lose my rear speakers
-slow. faster than pioneer to start up, but slow to read from ipod or cd when switching from/to one or the other.
-the dial on pioneer also has directional buttons (FF, RW, etc) built in where they are screen only on kenwood
-pioneer has a better interface. easier to use, more visually appealing, and I feel like has more setup options.
A few things the kenwood has going for it:
-touch screen blows the pioneer out of the water. so much more responsive, where i would sometimes have to press 'buttons' on the pioneer a couple of times
-sounds great, starts up faster.
-screen can be turned off, radio can also be turned off completely, where pioneer can't do either.
so... gonna go to best buy and play with some of the newer pioneers to see how they do. i'm looking at getting the 4300 because it has everything i want, however it has a motorized tilt screen which worries me. Probably wont use it much though. It has rear USB and front/rear/ and sub outputs. the 3300 has front usb and i want my cables all in the back because i use ipod almost exclusively.
look for a full comparison when i sell my kenwood... $300 shipped let me know!
