Enjoy load music, super amps, etc. while you still can. In time it WILL destroy your hearing. I am a classic case of what load noise can do. I used to love music, but I no longer listen because of loss of ability to hear high frequencies. It doesn't sound good anymore. (It is kinda peaceful at times. I can sleep through a thunderstorm). Just got my third set of hearing aids. I'm not putting down your loud music. I'm just saying to be ready to pay the price in a few years. The hearing aids that really work, cost about $5000! That's more than some of us paid for our trucks. My age does have effect on it, although my daughter is 40 and starting to have hearing problems. It's one of those things that we think only happens to the other guys.

 

Bingo its acully true. my hearing isnt thebest anymore but the best thing i did was not installing subs in my past few vehicals...

 

I dont really want to live that long anyway and music is one very few things I actually enjoy. I already know that music is going to have something to do with the way I kick the bucket

 

I never really wanted subs in my truck... would just be something that ends up stolen...

 

You guys are missing it he says he can't hear the high frequencies anymore upon last check subs do not produce high frequencies.

 

its been like 5yrs of straight huge systems in my vehicles and i can still hear better then my gf that hasnt..? affects ppl diff ways i guess? but the "high"s gotta be pretty damn loud to start destroying your hearing for you to need up to-5000$ hearing aids.

 

lol.. the bass is part of what kills your hearing.. it makes you go tone deaf over time..
they tell you this about 500 times in school..

i only play my music loud every once in a while, but i allready hear a high pitch noise all the time so who knows...

and working around running aircraft engines all damn day!!! that's why i thank the Lord that we have to have a hearing conservation test done every 6 months in my career field...that way they can see if there is a decline in the auditory senses

 

That high pitched noise is Tinnitus and is pretty common. That is the usually the start of hearing loss but not always. Some people have it so bad they have to have what they call "maskers". They look like hearing aids, but generate frequency that "zero beats" and cancels out the noise. I have it too, but don't notice it much when I'm wearing my hearing aids. My hearing loss is not caused so much by load music as by years of working in factories and I was an aircraft engine mechanic in the air force. Didn't wear hearing protection on the flight line like they do now.

 

then why are you saying it WILL no matter what destroy your heaing..most of us relize that if you crank it 24/7 and have decibals galore coming out of your subs..well DUH your gonna loose your hearing..you mine as well go to a club and stand infront of there speakers..its there to turn up and to enjoy..i couldnt go without it ill have subs till im an old bastard! if it makes you happy then good we all die one day mine as well go out doing what we love!

 

After the 2 15's, 4 12's and others I cant hear really good.

 

its been like that as long as i can remember, its not loud but it is when i try to sleep and its really quiet.

 

It's a free country!! I'm only saying you may not be able to "do what you love" until you "go out". The scource of the noise is not necessarily material. I only post this in hope some of you will be able to enjoy it a lot longer than this "old bastard" did.

 

You did forget to mention that when your old and have been married forever going deaf is a blessing.

well sprint kart racing and the drag cars chunked my hearing.. its kinda turned into selective hearing.. i dont hear to well when im not paying attention.. but its also turned me around to where i can hear a fly on the wall.. weird for me

 

I believe my hearing is going, and im only 19 will be 20 in Jan.

I work with machines that operate at 100db min. 130db Max. I wear hearing protection, but it still screws me up.

 

Nothing wrong with subs and quality music. Just be sensible. I'm 51 and still have my high frequency hearing, but I wear ear protection in loud environments. A brief bout with hearing loss back when I was doing my rock-and-roll musician phase turned me around on it.

It's a very good warning, and one I hope folks will take seriously. Some high frequency loss is normal, especially in men, but abuse will accelerate it.

I am also of "losing my hearing" species.

I once had 2x10" JL10w3's and 1x15" eclipse alum running ~1,200wrms at full tilt boogie. After that setup, loud bass began hurting my ears.

Then in college (and currently) I've had motorcycles and portable mp3 players. Now I find myself concentrating on things to hear well, so I wear ear plugs on the motorcycle and keep the volume on the lowest setting I can use and still hear the music w' portable mp3 players. The extent of bass in my truck is now just a single 10" elemental.

 

14 years of systems and 10 years of working on aircraft at work and drag cars and the strip at night have killed mine. I have severe ringing to the point of I can't sleep unless there is noise because the ringing drives me crazy. It happens, nothing I can really do about it as it pays the bills and lets me have nice toys.


And Justin is right, stereos don't do it NEAR as bad a .50 cals lol.
