Got my 4' whip on, finally...

I finally got my CB set up and working, I was in a pickle where to mount the whip so I could still fit in the garage at work.

I ended up mounting it inside the bed by the tailgate.

I was hoping for a good ten miles on the highway.

To my surprise, sitting in my driveway, I'm talking to guys at Patrick AFB, which is a good 25 miles.

When I hit I-95, I was talking to people stuck in the post shuttle launch traffic in Orlando, a good 40 miles, at least.

To say the least I'm more than impressed, this radio has been around for 30+ years, my dad used it when he was driving dump trucks, while they were building I-95.

It's a trooper, I love it, now that I have it hooked up, my dad wants it back, so I'm gonna go grab me a newer one.

This setup is pretty decent, and it isn't even tuned yet, I love the Firestik II, no doubt.

I throw some pictures up tomorrow in the daylight.

what make and model radio and antenna ?

I'll have to post pics of what I made, I have a Wilson 2000 Mag Mount, so I took some 1" x 1/8" flat stock and fabricated a nice flat mount to go right on the front edge of the bed in front of the slider window.
and it bolts to the front wall of the bed.
I just unscrew the base and put the antenna inside when not using it.

I'll have to post my pics here soon, my iPhone is recovering from a mountain dew attack, so after it dries out I'll throw them up.

It's an old Realistic, way old. Not even sure if it has a specific model number, I couldn't find one on it.

I'm using a 4' Firestik II and a mirror mount, but I bolted the mount straight to the inside of my bed in the back by the tailgate.

I remove mine too, because people like to steal things around where I work.

I wanted mine between the bed and cab but unfortunately couldn't get any tools btween the bed and cab to mount it the way I wanted.

I'm overall satisfied though, and will be picking up my new radio next week.

Then I'll have it tuned and maybe the 30+ miles I'm getting now will be even better.

Distance when using a CB is more on terrain and atmospheric conditions.
if the antenna is tuned properly, and the conditions are right then talking from Fl to MA is possible. (Skip that is)

Sounds like you have a good setup, don’t change anything else when giving your father the radio back.

Yeah, it's performing well, I messed around with the adjustable tip, that's the only "tuning" I've done.

I have a picture you can kinda see the whip on the left side of the bed.

Doesn't look bad at all! Post up some more pics of the truck, I don't think I've seen it before!

Alrighty. I'll throw them up in here.

I have a few out in the woods in an album.

Come get it.

Ahah, it for sale, kinda. lol

And thanks. I love it. :-D

Different is definitely one way to put it.

The flames aren't quite what I want, but they aren't too horrible.

They were taped by hand, and you can tell.

A few, I just have to put them up.

I'll do them tomorrow.

Glad to see interest, I thought was the only one who loved this thing.

Wirelessly posted (Timberwolf)

Rangers from the eighties rule. Nice box frame for the deep muddin'. And also like you did, slam a massive powerplant in her. Right on brother!

There's no other way to roll.

I didn't do the whole swap on this truck, but my hands were all over it.

My cousin has a secret project going on right now, lets just say, first gen, big block, nasty.

I'd love to get a newer 4wd Ranger though for my DD. This thing is killing me in gas. I love LII's.
