I got one of those converter things in my shed. It's easy to use, you just tap it into your factory speakers wires. Wire up your amp and plug your RCA's into the converter, done. Only thing about doin that is that it dosent sound the greatest. I hope you have a amp that blocks out all sounds except bass.

The theoretical maximum voltage of an amp with out a power supply on a 12/14.4v system is 12/14.4v. If you just give up some of your volume range, you can just keep the gains low and use the signal coming right out of the back of your radio.
When I did this, I just limited the volume on the stock radio to 3/4 and faded to the front slightly. This gave a maximum output voltage of roughly 7.5v on my rear channels. Many amps can handle 8-9v. Thus, I just soldered some RCA ends onto the rear channel outputs and set my gains accordingly (very low) and it worked pretty well. Of course, the SQ wasn't fantastic and there was some bass loss from the radio but with a parametric EQ I got it to sound decent until I bought a good head unit.

OP, save some cash and just get an aftermarket HU. I bought several off eBay for my past vehicles. Heck, I bought most of my past systems off eBay (HU, speakers, amps, subs....)
