How good is this amp?
How good is this amp?
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KFw1YpW...INE+MRP%2DM450
Here it is on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ALPINE-MRP-M...QQcmdZViewItem
It will be used to power this sub
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KFw1YpW...isplay=Pioneer
on ebay I can get it for $105
And my box will be .406 cu ft.
Should I have the box ported or not?
How will all of that work out together?
Edit: I can actualy get that amp cheaper than that on ebay by a little bit.

for the sub... power range: 50-250 watts RMS (1000 watts peak power)
and the amp. 220 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
It doesn't say the amp's peak power any where.. but wouldn't that be enough power for the sub? It's just 30watts lower than the max rms for the sub.

it'll power it, but its the heat id be worried about. the more it has to work, the hotter it gets, which may cause it to shut off in midsong, or completely melt your truck into tiny pieces. most likely the first one. mine does it after i run it for an extended period of time at a high volume, it will tick you off to no end.
Could I get some computer fans and put it onto the heatsink to help keep it cool?
Oh, and I also don't really like really loud music. I usualy keep the cd player on 15-18 outta 50 (lower the number the quieter) That's the loudest I listen to it, It's kinda loud but not really loud.
Edit: well, something like a computer fan that runs offa 12v

ive seen someone do something simialr before. one pulling heat away and another pushing air in. im not sure how well it worked. maybe someone else will chime in. if you dont ever turn it up loud im sure it will be fine then.
im gonna take some pics of my setup and what i plan to do about cooling, basically i made a shelf to hold my sub box with the amps hidden under the shelf. im gonna get some 12v fans from radioshack and connect the + to the remote wire and the - to ground so that the fans turn on with the amps, and the fans will be drawing air out from under the shelf and pushing under the seats. i actually havent had any overheating problems yet, but its nice to know that they will be a little cooler when i install the fans
i wouldnt reccommend hooking up too much stuff to the remote wire, if you try drawing to much current through it, you might short circuit something in the deck, if im running more than 3 amps i put in a relay( remote wire kicks on relay and relay puts out a good bit more power) so if you going to run a fan or somthing like that, spend the extra 3-5$ and use a relay
