I think I fried my stock head unit.

Ok so last week my sterio stopped working(wouldn't play music or display time) and I was just going to replace it, well today it started to work a little bit. But it would cut out when playing music an the time would flicker. We pulled into my house after driving to the gas station and my brother said that my head unit was smoking. I didn't belive him at first then I looked andbit was smokeing. It smelled horrible like burning chemicals and now it doesn't work at all now. What happened and what could have caused it. If I put a new head unit will it do it again? Any help is appriciated thanks!

Sounds like you had an electrical short either inside of the radio or with the wiring harness behind the radio. First thing I would do is pull the head unit out and check the wiring behind the radio. Even if it's just the head unit that shorted out, there's still a chance it fried the wiring harness behind. And then from there the fuses for the radio probably blew as well.

Thats what we electronic nerds would call "magic smoke". With out this magic smoke inside the unit will no longer function lol.
