Currently looking at getting myself a coupel sets of these..

Have a quesiton on upgrading from a 6x8 to a 6x9.. the mounting depth for these is 3" and I wouldnt mind knowing if that fits well in the ranger doors... I do have the supercab.. and will end up using my dremel and some other tools to make them fit if needed...


Does anyone have any experience with these? I use JBL exclusively at work as an Audio/Visual Technician.. so I do know they have a good name for themselves and sound fantastic.



Any little tips would be nice, that.. or I can jsut go ahead and try sticking with a 6x8

 

they are nice, jbl makes great speakers. i wouldnt go up to 6x9s tho, with all the cutting and ****. i have done it many times in those damn "donks" and "bubbles". but get a set of 6 1/2" components for the front and mount the tweeters on the sail panel of the door and a pair of 5x7 coaxils for the year and you will be good. 6x9s are for the rears in GM's

 

Alright.. perfectly what I was wanting to hear.. I'll go ahead and keep it down at the 6x8 standard for the doors then.. I had remembered hearing about the differences of stepping up to a 6x9 from a 6x8 and heard it was a good step up if you had the ***** to do it to your truck. I'll keep it simple though!

My full plan, is to get 2 full sets of them and plug them straight to my headunit for now.. I've got a 54x4 rms on my headunit right now so the preamp is decent enough to not need an amplifier right away. But eventually will look into a slim amp for under the seat.. or perhaps removing the pop out seat behind the driver.. since no one will ever sit there with me driving (I'm tall, so the seat is all the way back) and then mounting an amp in there with some jail bar reinforcement and security.

 

you have 54x4 peak so that is like 12-15rms.

 

Whoops, honestly wasnt sure what RMS meant *hah* but 54x4 is all i knew, almsot thoguht i t was 54 to each speaker.. doh!

Im not the best at stuff like that, I can install it.. but the other stuff si over my head

 

I have an '02 model and I measure 4 inches of clearance between the outer shell and the inner shell if that is any help to you.

 

dude. this has been like the 4th post you've bumped that is over a year old. check the dates before bumping stuff

I know it may be an old post but sometimes it is good to look at old posts to see what others have done in the past in case you don't find it right away. You may be trying to dis me but your opinion has been heard and rejected. I am here to learn because it is interesting.

 

There's nothing wrong with bumping an old thread. That saves from people saying "search" if you make a new thread. Im glad you use the search feature this forum has

 

I sometimes can only find the info I am looking for on the older posts and others may look them up also. Good info is good, even if it is old.
