My little project: Amp 'Box'
 

For a long time I've been planning on building a false floor or something to put my amps underneath. Well I finally got around to doing it. I built a box type thing that sits on the back floor, with a lid that now acts as the floor, and my amps and wiring are inside it.

It was my first time carpeting anything, but I think I did ok, you can just barely see the joints in the last pic of the underside.

I'm still working on wiring up the fans to a relay, then I can get some pics of it installed. I had it in and it fits well. Next project will be a new box for my 10" but I'm still deciding where to put it/what shape to make it. I need to keep at least 1 jump seat.

Let me know what you think and any suggestions you might have for box design!

Looks good! Put the sub on the drivers side that way you dont have to worry about having to adjust your seat really far up or anything when somebody sits in the jump seat. The passenger will have to worry about it. LOL

Where does the power come in at into the box?

I've left a little piece out on each side of the hump. My power wire/speaker wires/etc will be run through there.

Nice and clean - decent job on the carpeting.. I'm still sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting till I can get out to Home Depot for my own carpeting to pick up :-D

are there any pics of it in the truck? are you able to make it any thinner? looks good btw.
also, if it's raining/wet out, you have a friend in the back, is water from their shoes/boots gonna be able to stay out and/or not be absorbed into the wood?

You can see a few wires in front of the jack compartment, but that's alright, that's where I hope to build a new box. My 10" is in a cheap box right now that I got at a pawn shop, and the optimum enclosure for it (Infinity Reference 10" 250 RMS) is quite a bit smaller than what it's in right now. I'm also considering getting a new 10" though, maybe an Alpine Type R or X, so I'm gonna wait on the box.

Anyway, yeah I had hoped to build it about 1 1/2" shorter, but I ended up having to build it at this height in order to fit those fans in. I'm not sure how much I like it, but it was a fun project and total cost was $30. $15 -half sheet MDF, $15 -Carpet. I had everything else laying around.

I rarely ever have anyone ride in the back, my wife has a Pontiac Sunfire, my truck is just for me and work. But if I do and they have muddy feet they will be taking their shoes off. The mud wouldn't get into the wood, but it would get into the carpet.

It's kind of trippy when I turn on the cd player, I hear three clicks (main relay for fans+amp remotes, and then relay inside each amp) then the fans start to hum.

since it's done, it's too late for this. but since your floor is rubber, maybe coating the box in herculiner or something similar. this would be for security reasons moreso, maybe a little cosmetic.

again it looks good either way.
