Ok, a little background.

I FINALLY installed my subwoofer set up. I hate revealing details, so i won't. But it worked great. I'm running it from an Alpine 9856 headunit to a mono amplifier to a 10" subwoofer. Worked GREAT.

Keyword: WORKED.

So i turned my truck on, and i turned on my tunes... and i don't hear my sub. So i check all the wiring (new wiring, tends to fall out.. etc.) everything's good. I thought it might be the wire on the sub shorting out. I checked out, it's all good. Then, i pulled the RCA off of the amp, and it gives me a green light (that's good). I'm like, wtf right?

So i plugged the RCA cables back in (red light!! BAADD) and on my headunit, unplugged the RCA's.. green. (good!). So um... i thought, hell, it's the damn RCA cables! I go to radio shack, got brand new ones, plugged it in. RED (BAADDD).

So... what's up? I don't think it's the amp, because the green light still comes on when the RCA is unplugged. It *might* be my headunit, but that's ok, because i have warranty on that. Any other things i should look for? I'm using all MONSTER cables and the amp/sub setup is perfect for each other (nothing's overpowering/underpowering).

Help? i'm kinda disappointed in myself...

 

So I take it you had operation of the sub for a short time? What are these red and green lights that you are talking about? Do you have more then one set of RCA jacks on the amp or on the headunit that you could plug into for testing? Even if it is for a front output just to see if it works.

i did have the sub working for a while. It is a mono sub, so one set of RCA output and one set of RCA input (i used the input, of course). The headunit has outputs for the Subwoofer, Front speakers, and rear speakers. I actually tried plugging into the RCA out's on the amp, and it still gives me the RED light..

The green/red indicator lights tells you if it's operational. If the lights are on, it's a sign that the amp has power. Red means there's something wrong, and it won't let you use it until you solve it. Green means it's good.



is that a problem? Because when i got the replacement RCA cable, i plugged the rca from the headunit DIRECTLY to the amp. this means, no runnign wires, just directly to the amp. And it still doesn't work.

 

Running rcas the same side as power will cause alternator whine....

Sounds liek a bad amp or Bad deck my friend. Somethings either wrong with the signal from the deck or the way the amp is recieving the signal

 

I hope you put the inline fuses on the power wire...if so check that and make sure its not blown...if you didnt fuse the line you might have burned the amp....hope you figure it out soon.

 

hey bud, i'll show you tomorrow. But um.. i think it's the damn amp. Took me frickin 2 months looking for the POS, and now it's blown, haha. I think i'm gonna ask for an alpine for my birthday :hint hint:. HAHA.

amps not blown otherwise the light would be on constantly sounds like a bad channel in the amp ive seen it happen before

 

so how do it resolve it?

it's a mono amp.

 

get a new one..or get it rebuilt....

 

have you tried plugging it into other RCA's on the HU, front/rear?

 

yes, doesn't work. DAMMIT. I'm gonna save up and buy a nicer amp. POS!! =P

well, since it's blown... i'll tell ya, it was a Bazooka amp. Anyone else had problem with this?
