OEM Upgrade - Double din suggestions
OEM Upgrade - Double din suggestions
Hi there
Looking to replace the OEM head unit on my 2004 Edge, it plays MP3 but burning cds is not really convenient.
I'd like to be able to watch DVDs if the unit is within reasonable price, but is not a necessity. USB port is a must so I can plug in any MP3 player I happen to have laying around.
Security would be fine, like a detachable faceplate but not sure if it's possible with such large faceplates.
If possible I'd like to buy at Best Buy because I have credit with them and I'll be buying some other stuff there for the Holidays and the financing is OK
I'll keep the rest stock for now, Sub or amp in the future maybe, I don't listen to music as loud as I used to.
Budgeted around $300, but not set in stone.

Thanks for the help again

Hey Guys, bringing this up to life :)
I'm looking at the following unit
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020CX20...er-reviews-tab
and this one too
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DPX3...IN#details-tab
I'd rather avoid having to trim the dash and stuff like that, so my question is if there's any other way to add/connect a Mp3 player or USB device to the OEm head unit on my 04 Edge ?
Any help would be appreciated

can i see a pic of your install?? i had to trim my dash to get the ddx418 to fit. but it fits flush now
Add IPOD/MP3 to OEM Head Unit
Probably. Had to on my friends one fiddy. I can't recall exactly how we did it but I'm sure you could figure it out with some research. Seems that every new stereo is like that for safety..
Speaking as a Deputy, it's fairly difficult for us to tell you are watching a dvd with an in dash unit due to vehicles height. My crown vic sits lower than my Ranger and I can't even see the radio.
Manufactures do the Video "park brake wire" to take liabilty out of their hands and the stores that install them.
Exverse. I didnt forget bout more pics, been sick in house. Metra part #95-5600 on install kit also

Any standard double din should require you trim the dash but I wouldn't worry about it. The amount you take off is very small, and is invisible even if you put the stock radio back in.
+1 on the bypass being a liability thing. I've got an Pioneer Avic x930bt that I picked up new on Amazon for $580 there is a bypass that can be done. If the only thing blocked was watching movies I think many wouldn't bother but without the bypass it's stupid how little you can do when your driving.
Basic functions like changing your destination, put in an address, change audio setup, dial a phone number, ect.. ect.. ect... require you to stop on the side of the road.

lol ya but we're in Ontario, if you don't do that now its a ticket and points anyway.... if you get caught
I'm confused how someone would get caught? Only thing I can think of is if you're next to a cop at night for a while...
Yes I know its hard to get caught, I was just trying to be funny because Ontario has this big thing lately about no "hands free devices" and "distracted driving" But people have been caught, just recently I heard on the radio of a truck driver being charged for watching tv in his truck after several cars saw (somehow) in his big rig

With a GPS like the 930bt I have unit it will use that as well for speed and parking brake or not will blank all the options once your moving over a walking pace.
