I got my Pioneer F90BT on ebay for 200 less than what Crutchfield wanted.

What kind are you looking at getting? Personally, I'd suggest any of the Pioneers. Especially the F-series. But I'm a little bias'd on that one. But I know there's a good bit of support with them. Plus there's a ton of hacks/mods you can do to them.
x2. I had the Scosche kit in the ranger and it seemed a little 'flimsier' than the metra I have in the 150 but it still worked fine.
The only thing that I don't like is that my trim ring doesn't fit properly. It's too big so it bows out in the middle. But I already have a plan on how I'm going to fix it so it's no big deal.

now it will be my first time doing a headunit alone. always had a shop do it before.
wont i need to buy some sort of adapter kit or some **** so it plugs into the stock wiring?

You should already have that since you already have an after market headunit. Do the headunit yourself though. It's one of the easiest things you can do. Just make sure you don't make the mistake I did and buy everything first, and then try and install it and learn about it at the same time. Do your research first. VERY IMPORTANT! LOL

I can't give you a definite answer without seeing it. When you get the chance, pull out your bezel and snap a picture of the main harness. It won't be hard to spot. It's the biggest set of wires behind the dash that you can easily see.
