Recommend an amp wiring kit
 

Just ordered my new head unit and with my new setup my door speakers will have their own amp.

I'm not wanting anything spectacular, it's just a Lightning Audio amp that just needs to last a couple years till the next big upgrade

Probably 4 gauge, not looking to spend a lot of money. I've been told these kits aren't that much different, just the brand,

Any suggestion is appreciated

I have a rockford fosgate wiring kit, and it serves the purpose.. my buddy has a kicker one that is like 129 or something, and I couldn't justify spending that much.. so rockford fosgate FTW lol.

If I were you, scan caraudio.com. I know I talk about that site a lot but people on there are always selling spare wire or whole wiring kits for pretty cheap.

I just used a Scosche kit from Wal Mart, works just fine.

That's what I did with my old system. 6g wiring kit was like $30.

How big is your amp? Do you need a 4 gauge kit?

Only 400, but I want to have a kit that handles higher power for my next upgrade

I'm running 0 gauge with a 1000w amp.
so I'd say if you plan on going bigger on the amp, start big and stay big with the wire, that way you have it, and don't have to buy new.

Well the door speakers and their amp will get upgraded but prolly not too much bigger the sub and amp will get the 0g

If you are going to upgrade later, spend the money now get 1/0 and be done with it.

I would always run the highest gauge available for the sub and amp, just to be safe, ya know?
and then on the speakers and amp, your choice isn't as important, but you still want the right gauge, or bigger.

save yourself some money and just buy 0 for the sub and amp, and 4 or 6 for the speakers and amp.

He could always run a 1/0 wire into a distribution block, then a 4 gauge to the sub amp and 6 or 8 to the speaker amp

the sub and amp will def get 0g. But that upgrade isn't until next year

The door upgrades will be component speakers, prolly some tweeters, I haven't researched too much into it, but I won't go much over 600W total for the doors.

But the doors won't be redone until after the sub and amp are upgraded

here's the thing about the cheap scosche wiring from walmart and the other low end wiring... you need to make sure the actual strand count of the wire is adequate for the wattage of the amp. ive purchased cheap off brand 4 gauge wire and if you compared it to say a rockford or a kicker 4 gauge wire the off brand had almost half of the actual metal that makes up the wire.. the rest was the rubber casing of the wire... so please be careful and dont go buy a cheap wire thinking you are getting enough metal when you aren't, ya know what i mean?

Just means that you could run one wire and branch out from it for multiple amps:biggthump

I'd definitely go with 1/0ga wire from the battery (fused within 12" of the battery) through the firewall to near where your amp(s) will be mounted.
From there, use a fused distribution block to split off with 4ga for your amp, and you'll always have room for add-ons. The fused distribution block kills 2 birds.... distribution & fuses all in one.

The 1/0ga wiring & terminals won't be that much more than 0ga, but it'll save you more work in the future... ie you won't need to run a 0ga wire later if you just use a 4ga to start.

Also make sure you pick up a good firewall grommet (heavy plastic 2 piece units are the best).

I never buy those kits, they never have the configuration I want.

I got my 1/0ga from Knukonceptz (or however it's spelled) from their ebay listings...something like $1.50 a foot for 1/0ga back then.

Don't forget to upgrade the ground cables (with whatever gauge power wire you use) from the battery to body, body to frame & frame to block. Grounds are just as important as the power.

If your interested, i bought 2 full spools of 1/0 and i think i have a good amount of 1/0 left over, most likely i have a piece at least 15 feet long, stinger or tsunami brand i believe, can even send them with terminals soldered on with heat wrapped ends, also have fancy fuse holders with volt/amp readouts and plenty of rcas just pm me if you might want to work out a deal :biggrin:
