I got the profile amp and hooked it up today, and im wanting to know something. If you run 300rms into a 150rms sub, will it hit harder like it had 300rms, or is its limit at around 150 and wont hit much harder?

 

anything much over 150 watts rms the sub will be distorted and will blow......

 

well the reason im asking is b/c the new amp doesn't seem to have much more power than my old one, which made 250rms x 1 @ 2 ohms, and 150 x 1@4 ohms........I figured maybe it was b/c my subs rms is 150 and can't hit much harder b/c it cant handle much over 150.

 

150 watts RMS isn't a lot of power.....it wont be all that loud........

 

the profile amp I just hooked up has 500rms @ 2 ohms, and 310rms @ 4 ohms x1.

 

that is way too much power for a 150 watt RMS sub.....you either need to turn the gain on the amp WAY down or get a different amp....

 

or get a different sub, which is what I plan on doing real soon.

there shouldnt be any distortion as long as the amp is putting out a clean signal

if you start getting over the 150rms mark say 200+ you could run into thermal problems with voice coil overheating and mechanical where the coil will hit the back plate and it wont last too long doing that

ive seen many a subs rated for 1000rms handle 1200,1500rms, or higher just fine

and just because an amp says it will do 200rms, dosent mean it actually going to do 200rms

 

so then over powering a sub wont cause any sound distortion......i find that extremely hard to believe....

 

If a subs RMS is 150 watts. it's max is about 300. You can give it that, just watch your gains and your volume. I wouldn't go over that. As far as 150 watts not being very loud. Bulls*#t! I've heard plenty of systems running around that, and they were loud. It depends on the box you put it in. I had a JL 10W3v2 running off a PG 250 watt amp and it hit 133.2 db in my Explorer. Because it was in a 2 cu. ft. slot ported enclosure.

I'm sure you know this already. It depends on what ohm load your gonna run your amp at to determine what impedence of subs you need.

 

This is making me sick. Im very unhappy with this amp......it appears that it has no more power than my lightning audio amp. I dont know for sure whats going on, but this sucks. With one 4ohm sub hooked up, the amp should put out 310rms, but it feels like it isn't putting out anymore than my lightning audio amp.......

 

Maybe you should just sell it to me for... oh, say $20 if your not happy with it? jk. What sub are you running with it again?

As I mentioned in another thread, get the rockford fosgate P6001(old model). It puts out 600 watts rms at 2 ohms and would pound if you got a 500 watt sub. You need a different sub soon if you want to hear what your looking for.

 

Is it possible to have 500rms for about a 100 bucks?

 

To realign some of the confusion earlier in the thread.

A sub will not limit the amps output. If you have a 300W RMS amp, pushing a 150W RMS speaker, your sub will not limit the amps input power. Rather you would have the 300 watts running through the 150W speaker.

Its in the Ohms where stuff is halfed, doubled, or just right.

 

For a sub I don't think there is much outside of used equipment for that cheap for that power range. Alpine type-r runs around $115 for a single ten. Your running limited space though so I'm not sure.

 

I bought my Class-D Orion 600D (6000D maybe) amp from ebay brand new for about $120. Puts out 600w RMS at 2Ohm.

 

hmmmm.......Why does mine not feel like its got anymore power than my old amp then?
