I think I might go with the Pioneer. Its has more power and it does look pretty sweet.
The one question I have is, its says on the spec page that the iPod has an "optional audio" does this still mean I can control which songs I play through my iPod? I just cant use the stereo to control it right?

Alpine without a doubt.
For your question, I think you're asking if you control your ipod by hand or through your headunit? If so, you control your ipod depending on the hookup you buy. You can get a chord that runs from the bottom connection jack of your ipod to the back of the headunit. In this case, you control the ipod with your headunit controls.
To control your ipod by hand, you get a chord that runs from the headphone jack on the ipod to your headunit, either on the front or back depending on its setup. You can get great sound quality either way.

I was going to go w/ Pioneer, but I'm mainly interested in adding Sirius radio, and their head unit's won't display two lines of info., like artist & song title simultaneously. I think that is ridiculous. Even on their head units that have 2 or 3 line displays, it won't display both, so I can't figure out if it's the head unit that won't do it, or the Sirius module that wont/can't send the info. Irritating. My plan is to wait 'til january and see what the new models offer.
For what it's worth, you can load your songs up on a thumb drive and a lot of units will connect via a cable (same as w/ an ipod/mp3 player), and the info. will be displayed on the head unit, and controlled via the head unit.
I've had both Pioneer and Alpine, and I was pretty pleased w/ both, so i'm no help there.

alpine last longer and is better quality of sound. i personally only use clarions in my vehicles. the one in my car is 4 years old right at the tailend of there last good wave of headunits. i am gonna be getting a MAX675VD double din for the truck and their touch screens are still good good quality. its all personal preference but just pic whatever one makes u happy.

man go with the alpine. i have the alpine 9883 and i love it. i have had a few different brand hu and this one is by far my fav. ipod controls through the radio, it looks good imo and there is no lag whatsoever with ipod controls. i just have it hooked up to my factory speakers for now(changing that this week hopefully) but even those sound pretty good. there are alot of settings that you can control to tweak the sound to your liking. good luck with the choosing
mike
EDIT: oh yea plus if you use the bluetooth on your cell, you can actually use the speakers in your car to have a conversation on your phone!
