Im going to be putting my system into my truck real soon I hope (I miss it) and have a few questions. Since I still have the stock radio in my truck, where do I connect the HI input from the amp to the radio or speaker wires (to transfer music to the amp)? Also, are there any holes already in the firewall that I can use, or will I need to drill a new hole, and is there anything I should watch out for? Also, where do I hook up the amp turn on wire to the radio?

 

i dont think you can hook up to the stocker i know you can get adapaters to get RCA hook ups but then where would you get hte remote wire from..

i drilled a hole for my power but im also runnin 1/0 lil bigger then half inch..

just save some more green and get a CD player

 

Dont drill a hole, there is a rubber boot you can run your power wire through up above the brake....you cut a hole in the middle and run it through....

You need a CD player to run your amp, they sell speaker wires converted to RCA's but they suck,...not even worth it....

Heres the wire colors for your line out converter you can find them in the harness that plugs into the radio.

LF Speaker +/- blu/wht - orn/grn
RF Speaker +/- grn/orn - wht/grn
LR Speaker +/- gry/blu - tan/yel
RR Speaker +/- orn/red - brn/pnk

As far as the remote turn on heres the switch power source off of the radio harness

Radio Ignition yellow/black

As far the fire wall just look at the fire wall under the dash and the firewall from the engine side and see where you have room thats about all i can tell you i did from what i remember. Its been awhile since ive done a ranger so i cant remember where i drilled thro

 

I would tap off my rear speakers for the line converter, its closer to the amp so youll get less interference and a lot less whine(those converters are notrious for alternator whine when ruuning longer distances of wire), plus its less wiring throughout the truck

As for the amp turn on, you can just tap off an accessory in the fuse box (run it with the power wire) or you can use the radio ignition wire like stealthedge said .

There is also no need to drill through the firewall, use of the rubber grommets already there.

 

I've had nothing but bad luck with line level converters (Speaker > RCA). If high level inputs is what you need, then tap into the rear speaker wire is the easiest and best way to get signal.

 

you wont get alternator whine with a subwoofer....In the 5 years ive been installing ive never had that problem

 

Well there's no rubber grommets on mine that I can use for the power wire and I really don't want to cut a hole in that rubber boot Rocky is talking about. I'm probably going to find a quiet spot and drill my 1" hole. I'm just not comfortable cutting anything that was there from the factory and I'm looking for something water/air tight. I've got the grommet, I just need to drill the hole so I'm searching for a spot too Mark.

 

Why not cut a hole in that rubber? ive never had a problem with mine and its been like that forever...

You don't happen to have a picture of where you ran it through do you?

 

I threw together a box for a sub using scrap wood, and guess what..............I'll be able to put my 2 12" subs behind the seat without giving up any leg room, but it just barely fits. And luckily I found my HI input plug for the amp, which i've had for almost 2 years now, I thought it would be gone, b/c I used the RCA cables instead in my last truck. Hopefully I can make the box, and hook everything up saturday.

 

Ok, i've got the sub box made, and im almost done putting the carpet stuff on it, then I just have to put it in the truck and hook it up. I'll wait to make a new thread till im done, cause everbody knows a thread is worthless without pics.

 

i driled a whole and put a rubber grommet around the wire to give it a seal

 

Use the rear speaker wires to get your hi level inpout like was already said...Line out convertors suck.
