Ok get this. Of course you all know bout my system. ok well I have just recently (bout 3 weeks ago) put in a Rockford Fosgate p3002 amp in my truck that powers t2 set of p1t rf tweeter. Now just recently my tweeters would fade out an there would be no sound from them when i jam my ****? And at times the amp would shut off into safe mode. then once i turn it down it would cut back on. As long as the volume isnt too high im good to go. Im running a 4 guage wire for hot. Tho it is not amplifier wire. Is that the cause of the lose of power and shorts out? Grounds ok and speaker hook up from + to + and - to - is good. tripple checked tht. Any help would be awsome!

Could it be that you're putting too much power to the speakers and they can't handle it? How high do you have the gain set on your amp?

 

gains not even at half. its weird. i think i might need thick wire (2guage) to run it

 

What are your tweeters rated at, and what is the amp rated at for wattage?

Some tweeters have a built-in fuse that protects them from too much power. I would try turning the gain all the way down and use the HU for treble adjustments.

 

thts wht im doing. all the gain is doing is pushing out more power to pass to them. i dont even have it up half way.

 

Well, actually, the gain ramps up the voltage which in turn makes more, (supposedly) cleaner power, but most people don't know how to properly tune their gain, and end up blowing things.

 

I got the gain thing down, feq response, and such. jus not understanding the fade out. im not clipping tht i do know.

 

What ohm rating are your tweeters?
for some reason the link didnt work for me.. can you post the amp and
tweeter specs.. you DONT need 2 gauge.. even 8gauge will pass 100amps with <1volt drop. I was running a 1400watt rms class D amp with 4 gauge and no problems.

 

Is it still fading out with the gain all the way down and the eq adjusted??

 

with the gain off no. anly my tweeters are hooked up to the amp. and my door speakers are hooked right up to the head unit

I'm not sure what's wrong... might want to talk to someone at an audio shop, but if they try to sell you something, don't buy it... They'll do anything for a sale. No offense to audio shop guys, but everytime I walk into an audio shop, I've got a couple cards in my hand and recommendations for 5 different subwoofers I didn't want....lol.

 

No i had the same problem with my system....it ended up being the speakers were trying to pull more power out of the amp then the amp had to give....so i got bigger amps and never have that problem again.

 

If your amp is shutting down and it powers the tweeters, then the problem lies with your amp. Do you have anything else hooked up to that amp? Is your amp getting hot?

 

nothing else. and no it does not get hot. plenty of air gets to it! it stays cool

sounds like your amp is overheating and cutting off, or cutting off to avoid overheating (some type of amp protection) plain and simple. tune your gain the right way, with a voltmeter. if it still does it, i'd say your amp is defective or something.

 

THE AMP HAS PLENTY OF AIR! It is shutting off yes because it does have protection light on it. Its not over heating its cool, wires are hooked up right, so tht leaves me to believe tht i need thicker wire or a bigger amp?

 

you said you have 4ga running to the amp. thats PLENTY given the rms rating of the amp. check to make sure your ground is solid. i'm not saying that the amp doesnt have plenty of air... but there's obviously a reason that protection mode is turning on. your tweeters arent PULLING more power than the amp can give, however its possible that youre trying to PUSH the amp to give more power than it should.

I say upgrade the amp, or send it in for a warranty check.

what are your xover points set at?

 

id have to agree. you dont need 2 guage wire for an amp pushin tweeters. probably just overworking the amp.
