What Brand?

I want a decent system, I'm not planning on subs so I just need a good head unit and good speakers. Any suggestions on brands??

on a budget, i love my kenwood and 4 pioneer 6x8 3ways... no distortion when i listen to rock even at unbearable levels... its not the best for rap though...

for a more expensive system id look into infinity speakers or a set of component speakers.

I have the Pioneer 3-way 6x8s also and they sound really good for the price. Mine never distort and have decent bass for just speakers. I personally like Alpine headunits, but its all on what features you want and stuff. Crutchfield.com is a good place for reviews and stuff, but dont buy from them unless you want to waste money.

Alpine headunit, hands down.

I love my Boston pro-60 speakers also, but those are probably not in your budgeted range, lol.

Headend

Go with Alpine or a Kenwood unit w/ rca outputs, Pioneer 3-ways speakers. You should look for a 4 channel amp. You don't need a alot of power but it makes all the differance to the speakers.

I agree, with the stock headunit my 3-ways arent as loud as my stock speakers but they sound 200 times better. Just get a 4 channel to power the speakers as well.

Eclipse for a head unit. Not very flashy, but they are designed for SQ. Mine was $450, have a full eq, and 8 volt pre-outs. I'm pretty sure theres not another company that offers 8 volt pre-outs. And Im running Memphis mids and highs, not real expensive, but that sound amazing.
