I ran, and still run, my 4ga amp wire through my steering column boot. Works great....just make sure there's no chance for it to snake around your column.

All my other wires are routed via a 1" hole that's grommeted underneeth my engine bay fuse box....all hidden like.

I run mine through the firewall under the steering column. Then, I run it under the carpet.

Im the odd ball...ran mine under the truck and came threw a drain hole on the drivers side. Nice cleans and didnt have to pull carpet up. Been working fine for over a year.

Smaller gauge wires (about 4g and smaller) work perfectly through the firewall (with a grommet or through existing rubbers from oem). I have 4g ground wire from the battery to my amps running through the firewall, and 1/0g under the truck in through the floor on the driver's side in the x-tended cab. I just like to make sure my signal wires are away from my power and ground, so it's easier and better to run the signal(s) on one side of the truck under the carpet and power/ground on the other so no interference happens.
