ok i am building a sub for 99 ford ranger but i do not want to install a aftermarket radio could i cheat it from the back speakers and put sound cable jack and plug it into the amp or not i have a aftermarket radio i just dont want to put it in.

 

That could work as long as your amp has speaker level inputs. If your amp doesn't have speaker level inputs then you need a noisy low to high level converter. I vote put in the after market head unit, it will make everything easier and sound better

 

alright i will put in my aftermarket radio know that will work it was in my dads jeep and i took his subs and radio out alright thinks

 

the term for it is a LOC or a line output converter, it converts a high level signal (any speaker wire) to a low level signal (RCA's) you can get them at a best buy or any elecrtonics retailer or stereo shop. if the aftermarket stereo that you have has a sub-out on the back of the radio then it will definatly sound better than putting in a LOC but if it only has Front and Rear RCA outs on the back of the radio then it is going to be about the same as doing a LOC.

 

what kind of box are you going to set up?

 

just a single 12" with a i think a 300 watt amp idk for sure

 

yeah, thats close to what i had. i took mine out cause i didnt have a box to put it in. im in the market for buying a box that would fit into my truck, but i dont know what will. so when you get a box that will fit, let me know.

 

i made my own it was a 16 dollar project and i was bored i am going to put the top on tomorrow

here i put the top on it and the sub in it

it looks good to me keep me going out and buying a $128 box make it my self

 

i would go to walmart and get some poly-fil (pillow stuffing) and put in the box, by the looks of it it doesn't have enough air space for a 12" sub also you won't get as good of sound quality with an LOC so going with an aftermarket head unit with RCA sub outputs is always better they cost a lil more for one with sub outs but you can fine tune it then and make it sound much better

 

i have a aftermarket radio i am too lazy to put it in lol but if the box need more air i will take it to my friend he like a pro at sub.

by putting the pillow stuffing in it will trick the sub into thinking that there is more air space then there really is and therefor make better sound.

like mps01r6 said it fools the sub into thinkin that there is more air space in the box than there really is thus making it hit deeper bass better and making it a tight clean sounding bass you don't have to use much at all i just kinda spread it thin along all the walls inside the sub box if you want you can use the 3m sticky spray to spray the inside of the box to make the stuffing stick to the inside walls. i usually just put about 4 big handfuls in a regular truck box because 10"&12" boxes are usually .75 or .88 cu ft most 10" & 12" subs require 1.00-1.25 cu ft in a sealed box application. you just have to play with how much stuffing to put in the box put more in, take a lil out untill it sounds just right. Im 23 now started driving at 16 since then I've had 25 different system and Installed probably 50 others in friends and others vehicles stuffing the box makes a world of difference

not yet i get paid at the end of this week and just trying it out for right now but i am going to get that and i put my dads crossover on the system

oooo ya it will lol i stayed stock because it has casset player and cd and i can buy a thing from walmart wear i can plug my ipod in to it wear my aftermarket radio does not have aux in that sux and sorry about the miss spell word.

ive got a 10 inch JL sub. i dont know what brand it is. but its 175 rms. the sub box is roughly one foot long, 10.5 inches wide. and 7-8 inches deep.
