ok well tommorow i'm going to pick up my 302..and well it's kinda dirty..ok really dirty and rusty looking so i was thinking while it's in the back of my truck...to take it by the car wash and spray somr degreeser.....on it and wash it off.....what else could i do to make this thing look and get all the dirt off of it so i know what i'm working with.,..........


and i'll rember to plug all the holes leading into the engine lol

any ideas on what else i could do?

 

i would use simple green... really good stuff

 

take it to a mechanic/engine shop and have them clean it off...i remember on some car show it was showin how they could dip it in acid to eat off all the rust and make it all clean again....


or drown it in simple green...either one...

 

Simple green or the orange citrus stuff...both work well.

Also available is rust removal and degreaser products...check your local parts store.

 

funny you mentioned cleaning.. we just got our 2nd engine in tonight.. over the next few months we're going to do a complete rebuild at our shop. my friends 88GT is having everything redone.. from the engine to the new interior.. its gonna be fun.. here was a couple pics taken as we started to break the motor down..

well my motor is a little worse than that not much but... mines a carb so i'm not sure if i'm gonna put it in my ranger yet...i'll probally do bother drown it in simple green.......and then take it to a shop to have diped when it's all tore down

 

pick up some engine brite degreaser from wal-mart. its make by gunk. cover ur paint around the bed so u dont get overspray and soak the engine with that engine brite. let it sit for like 15 mins and hit it with the hose. trust me, it works VERY well. then u can do it again if needed. just dont forget to cover the carb and distributer with a bag before.

when u have the block dis-assembled have it jet spray washed in a jet spray washer. they come out lookin brand friggen new. or u can try steam cleaning the block...

 

^^^ thanks for the tips......but i'm stuck trying to figuer out how i'm gonna get the damn thing in the back of my truck....... think i'm gonna take apart some of it lol......cause the tranny is still attached to it.....and it's all freebies!! lol but thanks for the help...i'm sure i'll end up posting more stuff and pictures later

If it's still in your truck, you can also run it by a self-carwash place and use their engine clean formula.
