why do this to cleared rims that arent corroded....

04blackedge 10-19-2009 09:11 PM

Thats what I said in my post...

dcrymes99ranger 10-21-2009 08:49 PM

So this will only work on aluminum and not chrome ?

FMD 12-10-2009 10:47 PM

Hold on here...

NEVER use anything that is not specifically designed to clean chromed plastic... Ever.

Be VERY careful when it comes to chrome metal parts, such as the bumpers on our trucks. While the chrome looks good and all, its an extremely cheap chrome job... Real chrome will never rust.....

We had a 1977 ford van here for 31 years, the last 10 of which it sat outside, and the chrome front bumper still looked brand new...

Be careful with paint stripper on chrome. I personally, wouldnt attempt it

stephen.g.fiddes 03-28-2010 11:40 PM

The best thing to use on chrome, is about $1.00 in a vending machine... Yup, a can of coke...

Downey 03-29-2010 12:03 AM

^^ explain i havent heard that one?

stephen.g.fiddes 03-29-2010 12:04 AM

I've seen it used in a few places, and Mythbusters did it too.. everything ive seen it used on looks great... you have to let it sit for a while i think tho... then hose it off... IDK for sure tho... its been a while since ive seen it done

Downey 03-29-2010 12:10 AM

o ok so it just cleans it up nice. i thought you were saying it would take the chrome off ok. i understand now it is 2:10 in the morning i should go to bed lol

stephen.g.fiddes 03-29-2010 12:11 AM

haha its 11:10 here, and im thinking the same thing... got class at 9 lol

Did anybody ever try this on there polished aluminum wheels?

Downey 05-05-2010 01:06 PM

^^ it would work on wheels but you would have to reclear them. but stone has a great write up on how to fix wheels that are really bad. i would just do what stone did and not risk it

littlered 05-05-2010 01:32 PM

Mine dont have clear on them to begin with and i figured this would be a lot faster than going through all of that sanding and polishing

Why would you have to reclear polished aluminum rims?

scamry 05-05-2010 03:08 PM

^^^because people are convinced that polished aluminum wheels have a clear on them when they don't...
