Oil on carpet

... I dread to even ask... I forgot to change my boots from work one day and ended up wiping a MASSIVE 6 inch oil stain near the gas pedal... I think I've tried everything... any suggestions?

Liquid Dawn...they use it to clean crude oil off animals following oil spills, so it should be gentle enough not to screw up the carpet while at the same time breaking up the oil to wash out with a pressure hose, etc.

Ok so I tried the liquid dawn, no result just lifted a bit but still a dark stain... on tan carpet its really visible.. I tried carpet cleaner, it lifted a bit more.. but still seen.. I think I'm S.O.L. and I'll have to break down for the new carpet.

I've had good luck with WD 40 on getting out oil stains. As you are contemplating having it patched, would be a good idea to try this next.

Simple Green has worked well for me on some stubbron stains on carpets. If it will clean an engine, it should clean a carpet.

What about gas? Just put a little ona rag and try wiping it out. Should work. Just leave your windows down for a little while.
