Can aluminum corrosion be taken off?
K well when I purchased my truck it came with some DeeZee aluminum bar steps (the previous owners were old) and I like them except they've got these weird white vein looking things on them. It doesn't come off with simple green/409 and my stepdad says it's corrosion. I just think they'd look a lot better without them, do you guys have any idea how to get rid of them?
There's a pic of the bar on my car domain page incase you wanna see a pic of it.

That's rust getting under the clear coat. It follows the gaps in the protective coating and forms those white veins. They are white because aluminum rusts white not brown.
The only way to fix that is to remove the clear, polish out the rust, and recoat them. Most wheel repair places can do that, since the same happens with wheels.
To be honest, it's probably cheaper to get another set. My chrome sidesteps were only about $120. The old stainless ones were $140, but Smittybilt stopped making them.

if they are aluminum, you can polish them up to get the haze off them. if you live near a truckstop and/or have a c.b. you can ask if the polish man is in and he will do it for a few bucks. it looks like they put some type of acid on them to clean them.
ie look at semi truck aluminum rims, most have the hazy look, the shiny ones have no acid on them and have been polished..........
