Tried to remove nite-shade from Brake Light :(
I tried to remove the nite-shade on my 3rd brake light. Well when I used paint remover some came off and the leftover residue turned white when I tried to rinse it off. What can I do?????
I needed to sell it, it's an XLT light

The nightshade paint BONDS to the plastic and more or less becomes one with it. When you try to remove it, you also dissolve some of the plastic on the taillight and it "melts" and that's what you end up with.
I don't think theres anyway to recover it except to "polish out" the plastic and it probably will never be quite right. I could be wrong, but I don't think that stuff was meant to come off EVER.

Trust me, it takes alot to sand that crap out... I know because Ben's and mine didn't take quite right, and it took alot of sanding just to get through the first 2 coats. You could go with a 500 grit paper to get it down to being about red and white again, then use an 800 grit paper followed by a 1000 grit paper to get it pretty smooth, then if you spray it with clear coat, it should look fine.
Though it looks like you're saying screw it and going for a new xlt light... that could be an easier alternative
