I have never waxed my truck and think I really need to. I dont want to start a fight but what do you guys find as the best wax you have used. I have heard mcguire's it pretty good.

 

maguires NXT tech wax is awsome. make sure to use a paint cleaner wax, than a good clay bar job than wax! you will thank me later. lol

 

NXT is prolly the best consumer wax you can buy in any store

Thanks guys. What do you mean by paint cleaner? I have seen clay bars but what do they do compared to just wax? Sorry, I am a noob when it comes to this stuff.

 

paint cleaner is in a red bottle titled cleaner wax it will remove some light swirling and what not. A clay bar just picks up contaminates that are bonded to the paint over time.... its nt a wax its a piece of clay that slides over the surface that preps the paint for the cleaner and gives you better results and makes the paint feel really smooth. They do not remove any swirls they just pick up bonded contaminates from driving over the years... to see if you truck needs claying get a ziploc bag put it over your hand, and see if it is hard to slide across the paint, if the bag is hard to move then yes its time to clay.

 

a cleaner wax gets the heavy contaminants off the paint so you can go over it with a clay bar. the clay bar will get the fine contaminants off the paint and will make it smooth like glass before you put a coat of wax on it.

 

I saw the NXT stuff and it was like $16. There was some mcguire's wax in a red colored can that looked good. Of course it didnt cost as much.

 

you can also use their Quik wax in a spray bottle that stuff is awesome and really quick and easy to use. What you probably saw was the cleaner wax

 

really any wax is better than nothing. a good coat of wax will protect your paint. mothers and maguires both make good stuff, i just preffer the NXT. just make sure its wax, not a polish or something else.

 

Oh ok. No reason for me to start another thread. Whats a good tire shine? I hopefully plan on detailing my truck tomorrow.

 

i use the turtle wax spray on shine becuase its easy to use, lasts a long time and it doent turn your tires brown.

Something special I should use to wipe the wax off? Just a towel or one of those little hand things?

 

i get some terry cloth towels. also clean cotton undershirts work great too.

 

I use a micro fiber rag when I wax my truck. Works pretty good. I wax my truck like once a month with NXT wax and everytime I wash it I use a spray wax. For spray wax I use Turtle Wax. Not a big fan of any of their other stuff but their spray wax is pretty good stuff. And I normally clay bar it like once or twice a year.

 

I use microfiber towels too, but none from walmart or costco or any autoparts store, about $7 per roll online. Its a sin to use terry cloths and shirts to remove wax and other products to me. Because they do instil swirls and fine scratches which basically you just worked your butt off to get them out of the paint and in return you put them back in.... doesnt make any sense to me at all

 

What is the input on Zymbol and NuFinish? J/w cause thats what I've been using but I think I'm convinced after the bottles run out...

 

Ok here we go:

Wash and dry, DO NOT USE NORMAL BATH TOWELS. Grab a Abrsorber at autozone and a waffle weave drying towel, use the absorber first than the drying towel to get rid of all the little water drops

Meguiars Clay bar kit, take your time and use lots of lube

If you want to try and get rid of swirls or scratches try some Meguiars SwirlX 2.0

Then finish it off with some NXT 2.0 and buff of with a quality microfiber

Detailing isn't cheap, don't cheap out on it.

 

would it be a bad idea to wash my truck with dawn dish washing liquid to remove any wax from it, then use the cleaner, then clay it, then re-wax. ive always heard that Dawn will strip the wax off...so could i use that?

 

Yes thats a bad idea, theres no reason to use the cleaner wax before the clay. And don't use dawn it actually breaks down the clear coat after a while. The clay will take the wax off so you'll be fine.

 

I would say it is definitely a bad idea... If I still had the pics of my brothers 98 eclipse there would be some solid proof to not do it. Some will argue that it will do it... but remember its dish soap meant to wash dishes not a car. Get a good quality car wash soap and just clay, it doesnt take long at all to clay especially you since your truck is pretty new and you are in NC, now if you lived near me with Mayo and Hyco power plants with all the acid rain then yes it will take longer to clay. But I wouldnt suggest using Dish soap unless your truck has mold or other small funguses growing on it. DANG IT TRENT!! I type to damn slow... and yes the process is Wash, clay, compound, polish and wax

 

NXT smells good. thats why i use it. :)

 

Also why he sniffs model airplane glue... well at least, that's what he tells himself before doing it.
