15mpg??

I just filled up my ranger @ 188.5 miles with 12.5 gallons of gas, so thats 15mpg?!?!(BTW cost only 32.00) WTF, i thought 4 bangers are suppose to be good with gas and i realize its a truck but damn, my dads F150 gets about the same as my 4 banger.. I dont floor it everywhere i go, and like a quarter of the time im on the highway doing around 70 to school or the mall.. whats wrong with my baby??

sorry if im ranting i just dont know what to do anymore, thats all my allowance i get for a week, and its only tuesday and i last filled it up saturday..

my brother had the same prob with his 98 2.3 when he had it, i think it has to do with the fuel pump or something....

LOL, take a deep breath...Might wanna start going 60 on the freeway. Its hard with everyone passing you but you will save a lot of gas. If you have a man. tranny shift lower. Maybe time for a tuneup? Spark plugs, oil change, maybe some engine cleaner.

You want your overdrive on. Its your top gear that allows the RPMs to come a good ways down when just cruising.

stock size tires:
15x8" Unique SERIES 297 Rims with P225/70R15 BFGoodrich Radials T/As

just the rims are 2"s widder, and my mileage has only gotten worse since the last time it was at the ford dealer under warrenty, ive had the rims for awhile... no more warrenty now..

imo i dont think its your driving habits... i go 80 every wehre and still get almost 22mpg in my 3.0.. might just need a good tune up , but i know that my bro had the same bad milage problem

I'd say that is definately abnormal. Even when I am hard on my truck, I get at least 210 or so on 12 gallons.

I would log the miles for a couple of tanks and then report back. If you were on an incline, the first fillup would have been shy. If you were flat on the second it would be full. This could distort it. There are always rumors of gas staions shorting you on the tanks, where 10 gallons may show as 12. I never experienced it first hand but you never know.

What kind of mileage you have on the truck?

Alright. Not likely a spark plug issue.

Check the basics. Fuel filter, air filter, tire pressure, oil, tranny fluid, something you may not think could cause it, may be causing the problem.

Yeah, my friend the ford Tech reprogramed it at his work. I notice the spedo is just a little off above 75MPH compared to my GPS, I was getting 18 MPG before the lift and tires.

I got a combined average of about 23-25 in my '99. But that had the 2.5L I4 and a manual. So yeah, 15 sounds real bad to me, even considering the slush-box..

In my new truck (4x4, 4.0L, manual) I can nip at 19-20 combined (city/highway) if I drive carefully..
