2.3 DOHC developed horrible knocking
2.3 DOHC developed horrible knocking
My 03’ Ranger with about 87k miles started knocking horribly on my way home. No oil in the engine even after oil change about 100-300 miles before, so that’s another issue. Right when I heard the knocking, I stopped driving and towed it home. Engine temp stayed normal and I have yet to inspect the oil.
I have come to ask how difficult/cheap/expensive it is to work on these engines such as replacing connecting rods and bearings (I assume that’s where the knock is coming from)? I have rebuilt inline 300’s and 2.3 Limas, but never a DOHC. I haven’t really seen much of an aftermarket/market in general for these so I’m not really confident In finding replacement parts.
thanks for your time- Joshua
