I'm looking at buying a used 2006-2011 2.3 Ranger in an automatic and I was wondering how they compare to earlier 2.3's? I'm asking because my 1995 auto 2.3 Ranger has over 300,000 miles with no major work needed. I'm looking to trade it in because the truck is barely making 75 hp at this point (no joke) and it takes a good solid mile to even reach 55mph anymore. So to anyone out there who owns a newer automatic 2.3 ranger, are you happy with the truck? Does driving with the A/C on kill it? Any advice would really be appreciated folks.

 

My 2006 is a 2.3 / 5 sp, has plenty of power though....runs 70-80mph down the interstate no prob.

 

I have an '09 XLT 5sp auto, 143hp is a lot more then the Lima 2.3's, plenty even with AC on, will run right up to the governor at 90mph, gets an average of 26 mpg's at more sane(legal) speeds, certified Ford mechanics have told me they rarely see any of them in for repairs and like you have seen many go for 200,000 + miles with little more than prescribed maintenance.

i got a regular cab 4c 2.3l 2008. stock has 143hp but with cold air intake and new exhaust it can easily get 200hp. mine has great fuel economy around 25mpg isn with 115,000 miles. the AC on max does kinda kill the engine a bit but i just role down the windows and get great power. happy with mine
