02 ranger xlt fx4 standard trans swap?

have a 2002 ford ranger fx4. Its an automatic 4.0 with 120,000 and the transmission doesnt work in 1st gear or take off in drive

heres the story. I was in 4wd on dry pavement going about 40 and my rear differential exploded and locked up. Sent me to a screaching hault and now the Automatic Transmission only works if you put it in 2nd to get going and shift into drive once your above like 30mph. I have been driving it like this for over 2k miles.

So the trans shop says its likely going to cost over a grand to fix.

I got a older ranger 4.0 4x4, not sure of the year but its the box style ranger. And it has a manual transmission. I want to put a manual trans in my 02 ranger 4.0 will this older one work for me?

I plan on doing the swap myself. I just want to make sure I get everything I need before I tear things apart. As the truck does drive now, and the engine runs good and has allot of life left in it.

No matter what, you'll need a 01+ 4.0 4x4 trans PERIOD. The speed sensor is in the tailhousing of your trans currently, and thats right where it is in the manuals too.
