Is this a Level II or a standard FX4?

As you can see (assuming the link works)

http://autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/deta...Ztbz1SYW5nZXI-

It doesnt say "level II" but it does have the Alcoa wheels, red seat inserts and chrome tow hooks. I havent seen the truck in person to tell what rearend it has (28 or 31 spline). Is there a dead give away in the VIN that will tell me if its an FX4 or an FX4 LII?

Ok, link doesnt work right now. The vehicle in Question is a 2006 Supercab that says FX4 Off Road on it, but it has the above mentioned items that only the FX4 Level II had (or so I thought).

link doesnt work for me

but if its a 2002 fx4, it has the same features as a fx4 lvl2, but without the extra badging (because they didnt start the 2 seperate models till 2003)

I added some more info to my original post. Its an 06 that says "FX4 Off Road" but has several items that I thought only the Level II had.

Try the link now !

Thanks, I didnt even notice that it said anything there. I havent seen the truck in person yet but with only 9000 miles, it should be practically new. It may be worth trading 9000 miles for $5000.

Do you know what the factory tire was on the LII in 06? The tires on the one in question dont look factory to me. I have to wonder why someone would change tires at only 9000 miles?

Pic 8 you can see the Bilstein Shocks
And the Alcoas

But he did change the tire from the 31" BFG AT to some sh!tty Kelly "at" tire... lame

I'd offer no more than 16,000 for that truck. Especially since it's missing the BFGs. I bought mine directly from a Ford dealer, used, for 16,000 with 2,871 miles on it in april 05.

Its a level II for sure Look at the seats and guages on top of what's already been said. But The alcoas in 06-07 aren't a dead giveway. In those two years you could order alcoas in the standard FX4 package. Oh and I paid 18,500 for my level II brand new in 04. I wouldn't touch that truck for mor than 15-16K

Wow, $15000-$16000, Have you guys priced trucks lately? Around here you cant touch a decent truck with less than 45000 miles for less than $16000 private sale, much less on a dealer lot. Maybe its just the location. I actually started out shopping in the $14000 range and quickly decided that if I wanted to stay in the low mileage (less than 30000) I was going to have to ramp it up some. If you think $19000 is expensive for a Ranger with 9000 miles, try shopping for a Toyota or Nissan. I was looking at a 2005 Nissan Frontier with 44000 miles. They wanted over $20000.

I sold my 2004 Ford Ranger XLT Level II with 41K miles for 11,500 a year ago and I only had one interested party and maybe three phone calls. I wouldn't buy from a dealer look at smaller papers and you'll find deals. It works like this. The dealer says "I'll give you 12K for your truck" Customer is insulted and goes to the paper and Advertises the truck for $12,500. Then I put an ad in the paper trying to get book value out of my truck and my ad gets skipped right over.

BTW ^ That is the truck I sold for 11,500.

Wish I'd been around for that deal.
Please excuse my remedial questions, Im trying to learn what I can about Rangers before buying one. Ive looked at several and have decided that for my purposes, I should just go ahead and get a LII. Later this week Im traveling to look at an 02 FX4 with automatic. Ive read about the problems with the 02 and Torsens with the manuals. Has anyone had similar problems with the 02 Torsens with the automatic? Is it something to be concerned about?
I would also like the option of retrofitting rear disc brakes (one of the reasons Ive decided to stick with the LII). Ive read that there is a spacing problem with adapting Explorer discs to the 02 31 spline 8.8. Whats going on with this?

you can just swap the whole explorer 8.8 31 spline axle complete with disc brakes in.. just need some fittings for the brake lines, cut off/weld on new spring perches, shock mounts? i know im forgetting something, but its not that hard

I have an 02 FX4 with an auto in it, and thus far it's been the best truck. No problems with it. I'm fine with the drums in rear as well.

As far as pricing goes, I picked my 02 up for $8500, which was a hell of a deal. The 02's i believe should be in the $11,000-12,000 range and if they aren't, walk away. I can tell you I wouldn't pay more than $14,000 for one and there are plenty out there for that price.

Not true. The 02 FX4 im looking at this week ($10500) is black exterior but has a tan interior. I know thats uncommon, I havent decided how I feel about the tan, I'll have to see it in person.

wolfman, Ive been looking at mostly automatics because thats what seems to be out there but I did find an 03 twin stick that I may take a drive to see. The two sticks seem to be a rare animal around here also.

99ranger4X4, Ive been into building and offroading Jeeps for a number of years and Ive done the axle swap thing so I know the deal with that, you have to admit, it would be much easier to just swap brake hardware and be done with it, if thats the case with all the 31 spline 8.8s.

Tan interior on an FX4? I thought they ALL came with black or dark grey interiors.
