1994 Ranger, Auto trans swap to manual
1994 Ranger V6 4.0, Auto trans swap to manual
There is a guy who wants to trade his V6 4.0L Ranger for a car, I am thinking for offering my Golf. However before that, I need to know if the trans can be changed. it's got everything I want save for a Manual trans, truck is in good shape.(and mostly stock.)
I am new to working on cars/trucks, but I am mechanically inclined.
I know I need a few things.
-Manual trans. What year and type can I use? I think Mazda after 1993 or something are the same. Right? So Rangers, some Mazdas, maybe the Explorer?
-Clutch/Brake Pedal assemblies and clutch cable
-Flywheel/clutch
-Starter
-Wiring harness
-Maybe the ECU. (or whatever module I need.)
-Steering column, or maybe the Auto "shifter" can be removed, and the "manual" column covers put on.
-Manual Shifter and hopefully some kind of plate. (or do i need to break out the grinder.)
Is this right?
Here's the truck.

Wow, that's clean! I would just keep the auto trans. If you want to swap in a manual, then you're going to need the Mazda M5OD transmission. Both the R1 and R2 variants should be fine, but I'd try and get an R2 because it can take more of a beating.
