2,3 DOHC Pilot Bearing Question
2,3 DOHC Pilot Bearing Question
I have a 2001 Ranger 2.3 with manual shift. The engine is very very tired (I'll post an informational thread later as to why). I bought a 2001 2.3 out of a wrecked automatic truck. I'm trying to get everthing all set to slip it right in. I ordered out a new pilot bearing expecting to get something that would fit right into the big hole at the end of the crank. Instead I received a very small bearing. I have cross referenced it and it is the bearing listed for this engine. Since I haven't got this apart yet, can anybody tell me how is suposed to fit?
You have to use the flywheel that was meant for the manual transmission..
It should look something like this: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...h/SANY0259.jpg
You can see the bearing in there...
GB :)

Thank You!
Thank you GB, that explains it. I was hoping it was something like that. On most of the cars and trucks I have worked on the pilot bearing was pressed into the end of the crank. It makes sense that this one was pressed into the flywheel.
