2001 3.0 clunk

Hey guys and gals. New to the forum, I'm an Hvac tech, used to be a certified brake mechanic lol. Haven't turned wrenches hardcore in awhile, was mainly a yoda guy.

Well anyways on to my issue. I have a ranger, just use it to take the kids hunting and what not. When I engage four wheel drive the light comes on, just putsing seems to be ok but once you get on it a little bit it starts to clunk in the transfer case area. My initial reaction was maybe a slopped out chain or gears but I was wondering if that shift motor would also cause simmilar symptoms? Thanks for your time.
