2001+ 4x4 Ranger guys chime in PLEASE

Alright guys, some of you already know butI need all of you to check something for me by either taking pics OR I really like a video. My issue is that I have gear oil on my right CV Axle. I posted a pic on my FB about it and a lot of guys are saying that my CV looks like it has slipped out. I dont know, I've never owned a 4x4 until this truck.

I had jeweler54 do the same for me and his looks just like mine and has some play in it. His truck only has 9k miles im at 85k miles. he doesnt have gear oil everywhere, but his looks exactly like mine. his cv sticks out o housing just like mine. makes same noise and everything. I think his is fine. i just need to see if ya'll have any play in yours and if yours looks like it sticks out.

The task:

Go out to your truck and take a video preferably of you grabbing your PASSENGER side CV axle and kind of pulling it out a little. I want to see how far yours sticks out and if it has any play in it. For reference, here is mine and ben's videos.

Mine:

Ben's:

and here is a pic:

This is just to see if everyone's is like this so I can mark out the slipped out axle idea. i bet just the seak is bad. i definitely have oil all over the CV

Sorry broski no pics here. Mine however does look the same. Appears the seal needs replaced though. Mine decided it wanted to play that game about a year ago.

Ill go do this right now. I have normal play on passenger side. Driver side has like none but covered it oil

Update: I will Check a 2011 Ranger out at work today test a few on the lot. Too see if they have any play. I would replace the outer most seal. The Passenger side seal is at the Differential case. This requires removing the entire unit, it may seem nerve racking but it's not all that bad. The driver side the seal is on the outer axle tube.

Did you completely remove it or do it on the truck?

I did it in the truck. It can be done its a little harder to get the seal in straight though. If somebody has the time I would recommend dropping the diff.

it looks perfectly to me. Even if it is seeping some its not like its ruining anything.

The CV will have some play in the area you mention. Its very easy to just slide it back in or off.

Replacing the seal is like replacing any other seal, just take your time and install it evenly.

As said, looks normal. I hate oil all over too so I don't blame you for wanting to replace the seal.

i noticed mine doing that now too. it also hums now around 20-25 mph. dont know if you fixed it or what info you got but its almost like the inner axle shaft retaining clip isnt holding the axle in.
