Hey guys, so I just picked up a 2003 Ford Ranger and the transmission grinds a little when going into 3rd Gear (oh yeah, its a manual transmission) and sometimes when shifting down as I slow down it wont go into 2nd or 1st until I stop completely. Its really not the worst condition tranny I've driven on, but I want to rebuild it myself as buying a rebuilt transmission I think is more expensive than a kit and having someone else do it is just way too expensive right now.

1. Are their any certified rebuilt transmissions for around $800-$900?

2. What transmission rebuild kit would you recommend? Do I need one with synchros or one without?

This will be my first time rebuilding a transmission. Thanks guys!

 

Hey I know this is a very old thread, but I have literally the exact same truck and same question. Were you able to find a good rebuild kit for the R1HD?
