I have the opertunity to pick up a 31 spline loc-rite for my 8.8 in my 2000 ranger for 50.00 bucks, problem is my current axles are 28 spline. Would 31 spline axle shafts be a direct swap or would other items need to be swapped out like seals and bearings? or is it just not doable?

Nope. The axle tubes and bearings are bigger on the 31 spline.

 

I wish it were that easy. How come the trac-lok is so cheap? tons of miles on it and she'll need a rebuild.

 

The guy bought it and didn't like popping sounds or the way it handled on the road in the snow.

So if I wanted to swap my 28 spline rear axle for a 31 spline would I have to buy new axle housings? New differential??

You'll need a new axle...and swap that new axle in...
