I have a 95 2wd 4.0 with stock 3.08 gears. The trucks got about 105,xxx miles. Ive already ordered my lift and 33s. My question is how harsh will it be on my tranny. I dont want it to go out anytime soon. I wont be offroading or anything. Just goin back and forth to work (roughly 30-45 miles). Itll only be for a couple months till i save up for gears and installation. Just need to know if itll be safe to run till i get the money.... Thanks

 

3:08's and 33's ouch!! it will get you by for a couple months im sure untill you can re-gear. just take it easy on it untill then.

 

eeewww, man that is going to be a big turd. IMO why not just wait for everything to come in at once? Ranger trannies are not the strongest

 

you could go by the junkyard and get an axle with a 4.10. its a good bit cheaper.

but i dont think it will be too bad if you take it easy for a little while.

 

i dunno how i would feel about doing that. I wouldn't do it but its up to you. If it were my truck, i would first re-gear or get a new axle and then throw on the bigger tires.

 

ahh, i just hate having parts sit in my garage waiting to be installed. If itll be fine for a couple months ill do it. I dont care about it being fast. Just hope the tranny will hold up.

 

lol tell me about it. i had wheels, 33" mud tires sitting in the basement for a while cuz i never got around to getting my lift haha but i waited and got everything on at once

 

3.50s and 35s blew a big one.. couldn't imagine 3.08 and 33s

 

My tranny is starting to act up with 33's and 3.73s and I've only had 33's on for like a month. I would regear first.

I wouldnt do it. I have had 33's and 17's in my Grandpas garage for like 3 months, BL kit for 2, spindles for a few weeks and now im just waiting to put everything together. Im going to just wait patiently until I get a set of 4.10's because I would hate to rush then mess the trans up.

 

I had 32's and 3:55's and after that, I wouldn't even think about 3;08's and 33's. It's be slower than cold molasses.

 

So i guess im going to re-gear before tires. Would 4.56 be too much??? Im eventually going to 35s and dont want to regear again. Also anyone know a good place to order gears from. Thanks for all the input guys.

4.56 would be good, 4.88 with 35s would be good too.

 

I would imagine 4:56's would be better for him since he ways to use his 33's first. 4:30's would probably do the trick too.

You're going to hate your life with 3.08s and 33s. 4.56 or 4.88 would be good for 35s. I'd probably get 4.56s though if you drive that much to work.

 

i had 3.27s and 31s and i hated it now i have 3.73s and 31s and i wish i had 4.10s

ya im with everyone else, dont do it. i run 3.55s with 32s and i thought i was pushing it
